School of Science and Technology
-
Hi,
I am a former student from SST's pioneer cohort who is currently studying in a JC now. For those parents and students who are curious about SST in general, SST has a broad curriculum with the primary aim of cultivating students to be future world-ready leaders who are not only adept in areas of science and technology, but also on a holistic front as the school plays a strong emphasis on student development, especially in aspects like inculcating 21st century competencies.
While SST is a relatively new \"Future School\", its curriculum has proved to be successful with the strong performance by the pioneer cohort of students. In a classroom setting of 20-25 students, the students are engaged in applied learning where a heuristic, dynamic approach to learning is actively promulgated. Classes are highly interactive and tailor-made to cater to the students' interests. Other than the innovative ways of teaching akin to that in JC, SST also provides applied subjects which further provide students with the pedestal to improve themselves in core aspects of science and technology.
While SST is not without its weaknesses, I will like to encourage each and every student to apply for DSA if their interests lie in science, mathematics or technology due to the diverse range of opportunities for students. Personally, having transitioned from SST to JC, SST has equipped me with strong foundations to tackle A Level Project Work with ease due to the project-based approach to learning in SST, cultivating skills like 3D modelling, video making skills and computer programming which may prove to be of advantage in future.
I will like to allay all parents' fears about the DSA process. DSA is not solely judged on aptitude, but also on one's initiative, creativity and most importantly, passion. Having gone through the interview stages and all, I do believe SST will not deny a deserving student who has potential in areas of science and technology even if one does not possess the best results.
In all, SST provides an enriching learning experience. Having small cohort sizes engenders a closely-knit community, and it is ineluctable that prospective students will relish the experience there.
I hope this helps. All the best and do pop by at SST on 31 May 2014 for a visit. Cheers!
