      I strongly recommend Beestar.

      http://www.beestar.org/index.jsp

It's a helpful website for kids in primary school. It provides free math practice and other language, social studies and science programs that requires a little payment.

I registered James for the grade 3 math and ELA programs in the fall semester. As math programs are free, I paid 20 for the grade 3 ELA program (about 18 weeks). Emma does the exercise every week, and she really loves it! She checks the honor roll each week, and I also receive the Email whether she does well in the exercise. It's fantastic!

Hi meganx... thanks for the heads up on Beestar! Looks like a very interesting online assessment site. I'm not sure of its suitability as a tool for Singapore primary school students, since it does not follow the MoE syllabus and is more tuned to US grade school standards. But definitely good for parents who want their children exposed to other learning methods.

I believe the 20 bucks you mentioned is in USD.

Yes, MPM does cover problem sums, using modelling approach.

              Hi applepie,
Thanks for the feedback....do they usually cover that at the upper pri level?
And how different is MPM from Kumon? I only know that both involves doing worksheets at own pace and getting an instructor to mark them.
              TIA.

Hi jedamum, Kumon only trains calculation speed. It is not too useful for problem or logic solving.

                  Thanks ChiefKiasu.
I would also like to know (from parents with MPM kids) whether MPM instructor teach or like Kumon instructor, only 'guide' kids or only mark the papers.
I read somewhere that for MPM, they only admit existing students into their higher level maths (ie only students that has followed through the programme can continue into P5,6 and no new students will be accepted for these levels). Not sure if its true.

I tried to teach my kid math, ie addition and subtraction, the old method of counting beads and fingers and later I realised that this is a very slow way of doing math. When my kid was 4, I sent him to abacus course and it does help. I would have liked to send him for abacus earlier, but they only take in student who can start to write numbers.
