Cost of University Ed in SIN
-
I don’t know enough to list out the miscellaneous items but I think how much to budget for depends on the course of study and the lifestyle the undergrad leads.
For Design and Archi students, they may spend more because they may need to buy certain materials due to the nature of their course & projects.
For budgeting for lifestyle, depends whether the child is a party person, hangs out at cafes and the types of clothes/accessories/tech gadgets they are in to. A lot also depends if they stay in hostels or at home. Does the student drive to sch or take public transport?
(maybe $600 - $800 (or more for families who can afford it) a month?)
Some undergrads supplement their allowances working part-time or intern during the semester break.
Increasingly, more students opt for student exchange programme for 1 semester. If they do that, it also depends where the students study overseas: is it Europe? US? an Asian country? This will affect the budgeting as well.
(Someone shared with me that some students budget $10k - $15k for the 6 months overseas exchange in US/Europe - includes accommodation, food and vacations) -
Tuition fees (4 years course + misc fees)
30k~ (depending on faculty but generally it is about there)
Hostel (in NUS)
500/mth~ (depending on hostel/residence)
Transport
50/mth~ (for concession if taking public transport)
Expenses
highly dependent on individual lifestyle but food in campus is cheap
Exchange (to european countries)
~10k++ (can apply for grants)
Misc
a laptop ~1k+
Hope this helps -
Thanks for info. For exchange, is it once a year or a couple of times per year?

Most students would do it only once (usually for a semester) in their 3 or 4 years in uni. It is optional so you can choose not to do it.
