How about day trip to Hakone? Very beautiful and nice place. There is a direct train operate from Shinjuku station by Odakyu co.

We did a round trip in Hakone last year.

The open air museum is worth visiting.

Thinking of a 1-day Mt Fuji, Hakone day trip. Take bus there and bullet train back...

Does anyone travel Hokkaido & Tokyo together before? I try to book from SQ using the mutli-city itinerary, wow it can cost me up 5 digits figure!! I wish to go to Hokkaido first for 7 days, when back to Singapore i wish to stop at Tokyo for 6-7 days too… but the SQ website only transit only… Since already in Japan might as well go to Tokyo shop for a few days, at the same time can bring kids to Disneyland. I thinking just book directly Singapore to Tokyo then back Singapore. In between maybe book nippon from Tokyo to Sapporo then back Tokyo. But the Nippon airway website cannot do it, don’t know why? Even JAL website also cannot. I go to their domestic flight, just can’t do it, show me error. Can anyone teach me how to go on it? Thank you.

I'll try to understand what you want:
You want to fly to Hokkaido (i.e. Chitose - CTS in Sapporo). Heading back to SIN, you want to stopover in Tokyo (i.e. either NRT or HND in TYO). As no airlines fly direct to CTS from SIN (at the moment at least ), there will be a transit in between.

Given that you would like to stopover Tokyo on the return leg, the best itinerary would be SIN-CTS, CTS-TYO (stopover), TYO-SIN. Borrowing the SQ graphical trip builder, it should look something like this:

Unfortunately, in this instance, SQ can't sell you this ticket (probably because they can't offer you the CTS-TYO ticket). Alternative solutions, if you insist on flying with SQ, would be buying SIN-TYO-SIN and domestic TYO-CTS-TYO tickets separately, or buying an open-jaw SIN-CTS//TYO-SIN ticket with a separate domestic CTS-TYO ticket. Such itineraries are always going to be expensive as you have discovered.

JAL or ANA is likely to be your best bet and I suspect you aren't doing it correctly when creating the multi-city itinerary. On JAL (as per below), I manage to get a fare of about SGD1.3k per person for Dec.

Planning to be in Tokyo in dec and plan to visit disney sea. Hilton Tokyo bay seems a much talked abt hotel. Is it convenient to other attractions in Tokyo besides DisneySea? We plan to visit other attractions like Asakusa, megaweb and tsukiji market etc. Is there a recommended area in Tokyo to stay which is convenient for moving around?

JAL website -> select Multi-city in the ticket purchase section. You would need your bookings to be issued on 1 ticket.

Once in the multi-city booking page, just use the following parameters with the dates of your choosing. Take note of the stopover point in TYO on your return leg.

Dec is peak period for travel. If you don't mind the risk of not having tickets, you can try booking later. As it's the peak period for travel, price drop is unlikely barring any foreseen circumstances.
