I’ve just enrolled my son to the latest branch in Punggol, after getting to know about CMA and good feedback in this forum(Thanks KiasuParents.com !!).
It’s a very small outfit just beside the MRT and Bus interchange. Though tight but very neat and utilitarian.
So far son is coping well with twice-a-week sessions, and I think the very well structured program and trial-and-tested teaching methodology and materials play a definite role. So more expensive than other abacus programmes, but I guess a premium to pay for a better chance of positive result.
I intend to continue my son with the centre after the first term. I’d strongly recommend this abacus programme to parents for their pre-schooler, but as with any enrichment programmes, you’ll get best result by guiding them daily.
Please feel free to quote my son to get referal discount for both parties:
Name : Brennen Goy

my 3.5yo is pretty active and has short attention span.
do you think CMA (consider an abacus is like a manipulative instrument) will be suitable for him (when he reach 4yo)?
TIA. -
Jedamum,
CMA is not only using the abacus, but mental computation is also an impt part of the course. In addition, there is the recital sums as well, whereby it is read and kids will add using mental computation.
My gal is very active too, and she has benefitted from the lessons. She has been with CMA for slightly over a year. At K2, she is able to handle computation beyond her age (adding / subtracting 10 2-digits sums, multiplying 3-digit with 1-digit). Though her attention span is still shorter than those kids older then her, she is far beyond her peers and is able to do her homework by herself without me sitting next to her to supervise (occasionally still need to do the supervising when she is in bad mood and need some attention). I hope this will prepare her for her P1 - P2 years, and she is able to handle the schoolwork by herself by then.
Hope this helps. Should you need referral, please PM me. -

my kid is a year end kid. think will have to wait until next year (K1) before i can start him.
is CMA lessons conducted in mandarin? is there any trial?
should be looking at Bukit Batok branch (nearest).
TIA. -
Must emphasize this though: it is a MUST for parents to supervise young kids initially at the start of programme, and encourage kid to do more. Once you have establish that routine and the kid is motivated, it get easy and the kid is very willing to learn. This will need to be repeated over time, as once in a while, the kid will be dreading a "hump" or feeling down due to change of moods or feeling monotonous with doing homework. If your kid is older in primary sch, maybe you would not need to do that much supervising.

actually my ds1 learnt conventional abacus when he was in k1 up to k2; it didn't help much in his mental calculations, so we dropped that before he reached P1. but i fully understand the battles we had been through getting him to finish his pages of abacus homework.
thanks!
ds2 is not well-versed in mandarin (although he knows 1-10 in mandarin), so if class is conducted in mandarin, may have some problem.... -
jedamum:
Lessons conducted in English, though materials is produced in Taiwan. I started my gal in K1, but I've seen parents who started kids in nursery progressing well. Your kid will need to know his numbers, and preferably their order, before you start the CMA lesson. It is much easier for him to understand with this then.

As I said, I started my gal in K1. A little regret not starting earlier, as I agree that she could have progressed faster and I could have maybe stop by P1 to look into other areas by then. I really think need to progress to a reasonable stage before stopping, else all will be forgotten.
