Looking at the application rate, I would say that this year is also the mildest in terms of competition in Phase 2B. Possibly the schools are well prepared and have been keeping PV numbers down to manageable numbers.

With schools cutting down the PV numbers or not taking PV at all, parents will start to go via GRL route and then the pressure will be with PA 😓

better don't bring child down, for balloting.

balloting in itself is already stressful.
bring a child down, wait got to explain to child why didn't get in, add to further unnecessary stress.

you can always bring yr child down on actual P1 orientation day itself
Totally agree. Don't give the child an impression that he/she can't go to this \"good\" school. We don't know how the child will interpret and behaviour and we got to handle the consequences

There's such instructions from moe on how to turn ball?

Anyway does anyone dare to tell the P how and what to do?
All jittery and hearts in their mouths already. .

Would it be better if using paper?

phtthp:
ryes:
How will a ballot be conducted?
Is it advisable to witness it?

At my girl's school, balloting was done in a \"net\" ball with a metal scoop in the center of the ball. Those toto style. Each ping pong ball had a number written on it to represent the girls name. Each girl has been pre assigned to a number so u cannot choose ur lucky number.

It is very unfair to use this toto ball. Because the instruction given by moe is to Gently turn anti clockwise (or clockwise ) once or 3 times then the other direction 3 times. So gently is the key word here and the spinner will do it slow motion and the balls just away left right left right with no jumping motion. I rather those machine can blow air from below the ball jump up and down type works even better than this!

So u can imagine those balls which are in the mid portion has a higher probability to be scooped up as the metal scoop is in the center only. None of us voiced out for the spinner to spin more vigorously. Everyone so gan cheong for that 10 seats out of 25.

Thanks very much, ryes, for this important feedback.

So parents who are balloting for 2B this week -
Before balloting start, remind that person in charge of stirring the balls, to do something, make sure all the toto balls turn vigorously.

Otherwise if balls don't move much, is not fair to always keep picking up balls located in the centre of the cage.

Because once the balloting start, complaint no use, since balls had been selected.
So, do make yr voices heard, before balls start turning.
Before balloting commence.
Make sure all toto balls have a chance, to be turned, fairly.
MOE will be updating schools requiring balloting for phase 2b on Thur.

Actually i tot see the difference in numbers will noe need to ballot or not?

Nope, because you don't know how far each of these applicants stay from the school.

If there are 20 places, and 40 applicants, but of these, 20 apps within 1km, the 20 will get in and the rest don't even have a chance to ballot.

If there are 40 applicants and 21 apps within 1km, only those 21 get to ballot for the 20 spaces.

GRL route not easy now, unlike my times, now you need to be confirmed members (GRL) for 2 years, so in total, one would need to join 3 years in advance prior to year of registration to be safe. This is much more commitment than PV route which is 1 year.

I agree with Timtim that GRL is not an easy route. I have tried half a year and I found I cannot keep up with it. I have to acknowledge their contribution to have this priority.

Ya lor... Anyway this year catholic high is not that competitive as last year. 25 applicants <1km ballot for 23 seats. Hope I can be one of those 23 lucky parents. 🙂

I gave the sch a call just now. Being informed that if unsuccessful in ballot, can put in wait list but not first come first serve basis. Principal makes the final decision if there is a place available… Sounds weird. Seems like opening back door…
