why do you choose DHS?
How do you get to know about dhs?
what can you contribute to dhs if you were offer a CO?
what do you know about our school's motto?


For the english test, it is a MCQ test. My son took this test last year.

Just to add on, my dd took the Eng test in 2012 & besides MCQ, there was also synthesis… Also some questions were asked in chinese during interview for my dd’s case.

The dates will depend on what your child DSAed in with. The school will inform you either through message or email or both ^^

Hi! I am a Year 2 DHS student this year.

I am here to give you guys a clearer picture and overview of what Dunman High really is. I don’t really know what you guys want to know, so I’ll just say what I can think of. HAHA

Clarify some misconceptions:
1)You don’t have to be exceptionally strong in your Chinese language to survive in DHS. I think I can hear some exhaling of breaths now^^. But really, you don’t have to be REALLY good in your Chinese. And honestly speaking, you can’t study for Chinese Common Tests, except for the formats (eg. 顺序，倒叙， etc.).
Some tips for Chinese: Study tests’ formats before hand and don’t wait till last minute then start stuffing your brain with the formats and stuffs. Score as high as possible for 成语考察，or if possible, score full marks. 成语考察 is really the only thing you can study and memorise for in Chinese, and it’s also easy to score if you are diligent enough to memorise all the 成语. During common tests, level tests, and EOYs, remember to read the comprehension passage thoroughly and answer in detail. Every year, there will be a minimum of 1 storybook test, where you are suppose to read a book and you have to take a graded test based on the text written.

But take note, when I said that "your Chinese don’t have to be that good", doesn’t mean that Chinese isn’t important. DHS is filled with Chinese culture (We have a "tea room" for tea lessons, a statue of Confucius in our 正心园，ACC lessons for us to learn more about the Chinese culture which I find is pretty fun^^ etc.)

2)Language Arts is important. LA is somewhat like English and Literature (We don’t have English as a subject). It is different from Primary School English as the teacher won’t nag at you for grammar or spelling mistakes, COZ u are expected to know them at your finger tips. But, my point is that LA is considered the MOST IMPORTANT subject. This is because you will be retained if you don’t pass your LA. Be assured that your hand will break due to the amount of essays you have to write.
Tips for LA: Study your texts and do research yourself. Find out more about the hidden messages in the texts. If you are lucky, you will get a wonderful teacher (like mine) who will take time and effort to explain the whole text(s) in complete detail. But, of course, you have to be hardworking and play your part in taking down notes.

Tips for Geography:
1) Know the map well…VERY well. There will be questions tested on your map skills. Although it is kinda straight forward, but you have to memorise the whole map to be able to answer this type of question.
2)Study Geography at least 2 weeks before hand. Don’t wait till the very last week or even worse, the previous day prior to a test, to study for Geog. Coz by then, it will be far TOO late!
Trust me, you will have to learn to adapt in Year 1. Geog is quite a tough subject for me to score. Do answer in DETAILS!!! Just throw in what you can think of. It will definitely help you to score better (What I learnt from doing pretty badly during yr 1)

Tips for History: Memorise formats and that’s it. You don’t really have to memorise anything but you have to have some basic contextual knowledge. And, read through all notes given by your Hist teacher.

Tips for Maths: Your can’t study for Maths. You can only score if you practice continuously and diligently.


If you have any enquiries or doubts, please clear them with your teachers. They will absolutely love to help you!

In my opinion, DHS is just like my 2nd home. I actually spend more time in DHS than my own home. DHS has a really good study environment which is very coz and filled with warmth.
Bowing and greeting teachers, elders, visitors, etc. is an unspoken rule which everyone ought to know and do.
Teachers here are super passionate in teaching and care for their each and every student. They are willing to spend and draw out some of their precious time just for you. Especially nearing exams and major tests, you can see swarms of students chasing after their teachers to book consultations. In the morning or after school, you can see students and teachers sitting on the benches having consultations.
Believe me or not, DHS teachers are not like Primary Schools’ discipline masters or mistresses who will go screaming their heads off at students. DHS is a close-knitted family. Teachers treat their students like their own children. Imagine the discipline masters and level heads cracking jokes with students. Imagine the principle, Dr Foo, going around the school, stead of staying within the walls of his office, to chat with students and ask them about their well-being. Yeah~that’s DHS.
Canteen food vendors are really kind. You can actually borrow money from food vendors. If you didn’t bring money with you, you can just pay the next day. YOU HAVE TO RETURN THE $! You can store your food inside the food vendors’ fridges and just retrieve them after school.
Treat cleaners and all staffs with respect. Our fellow cleaner aunties and uncles are mostly all in their late 60s or 70s, yet they are helping us keep out school clean and tidy for us to have a conducive environment to study in. So, if you ever walk past a staff, just greet them!
Manage your time well. Having a schedule is advisable to plan your timings. Juggling with school work, CCAs and rest time is crucial. You have to be passionate about your CCAs. CCAs will be conducted almost 3 times a week/ 6-8H a week. So do keep track of your time. It’s an important skill to score good grades^^
Studying in school. If you don’t have a conducive environment at home for you to study, you can always study in the school’s Media Resource Library. There are cubicles where you can study in peace without any distraction. What’s more, you can photocopy DHS past year papers in the MRL. Rmb that the photocopy machine don’t operate on coins, they operate on photocopy cards which we buy from the school photocopy shop in the canteen.
Get help from seniors. Seniors are your second option other than teachers. You can ask them for notes or tips. They are better than Mr Google HAHA. Don’t worry, they don’t bite~

If you choose and accepted into DHS, I can assure you that you will never regret it!

Do you mean some domains' results will be released first? Any idea when for what? From what I read in previous DSA posts, DHS only sends out snail mails on the last \"notify by\" date. TIA.
