Glenn Doman/GD Baby Math - Discussion

Dear all,


I just attended the GD Baby English reading and math module for my 9+ months old boy.

My problem is I am from China and not that fluent/accurate in English speaking. I asked Lawrence in GD Baby that if can I teach my boy math in Chinese. He replied that had better using mother tongue to teach math. Of course my mother tongue is Mandarin. But I stil concern on this, especially my wife still prefer using English to teach baby math. She is also from China so also not that good in English.

Anyone encounter the same situation with me? Or any of your option is appreciated here.

That's an interesting problem. My suggestion would be that you teach math in Chinese, since that's what you are most comfortable with. Also, there's always that myth that Chinese math is superior to English math (dunno true or not, but that's the general impression).


Anyway, when I sent my boy for abacus training, the lessons were all conducted in Chinese.

But try not to teach your little junior English in Chinese :).

3 year old is not too old. Glen Doman recommends his method for kids from 0-6 years old.


Glen Doman method basically covers the methods he wrote about on how to teach kids to read, math and give kids encyclopedia knowledge etc. The books are available from Nationa Library or at most book stores.

Plenty of websites that talk about the method too. In singapore, there is a school that teaches GD method call GD Baby.

I think you can teach maths in chinese, but there might be a problem, your boy might not understand the question in school nor the teacher. Don't forget all lessons are conducted in English in Singapore school. But you can elaborate the example using Chinese if that is easier for you.

Hi, i also like to find out how to get started on Glenn Doman, ie, what materials required, costs, books required etc.


Currently, i read to my boy in the evening when i am back from work. Shichida is too ex for me so i thought i can try out the Glenn Doman method with my boy and see if it works. If it doesn’t, just treat it as another activity for bonding other than reading, if it works…BINGO!

Glen Doman have write a number of books for his method - which covers math, reading and encyclopedic knowledge and physical fitness.

Basically, the math, reading and encyclopedic knowledge involves using flash cards to introduce the relevant information to the child. His books covers in detail the materials and how to flash the cards. But basically this is what you need and the approximate cost:

1. Read his book : Free (can borrow from the National Library)
2. Flash cards : If you want to make your own, you need to buy blank cards to the size recommend by GD. Alternatively, can buy ready made ones which is more expensive.
3. Time to flash the cards
