Jennifer,
It’s hard to find a good guide book, either the book is not informative or has too much info to digest.
I got this book ‘Complete Smart Series Science’. Publisher is Fairfield Book Publishers to teach my boy. Info is simple enough for him to read on his own. Some authors like Renee Chong & Helen Lee is not bad too. I think I saw a new text (Renee Chong) at Popular, for upper and lower block.
E3,
PH is using Perfect Match Home Tests and Science practice on top of the workbooks. I compile certain questions from these 3 books when coaching him. -
Jennifer:
really plants can move? oops...my boy told me they cannot move and I trusted that he learnt it in school. i should have investigated further... hopefully that question will not come out today. i wonder if plants like mimosa and venus flytrap can be considered as moving since they respond to changes immediately. My elder boy had a good Sci teacher, Mrs Ee for a semester when he was in P4. Mrs Ee was the level head for Sci. Sadly, she had left the sch the same year Mr Woon came on board. Before Mr Woon in P6, my boy's Sci teachers are also PE teachers. I always have the impression that PH does not emphasise much on Sci.
I came to know that Mr Tan CS was a Sci teacher before he switched to teaching EL full time. Mdm Ling can teach Sci too. But this year, she onlly teaches 2 classes of MA.
I hv been brushing up my P3 boy's Sci revision lately to prepare for CA1. I use EPH lower block assessment book Diversity. Had a difficult time with the topic Plants becos most of the plants stated in the qns are unfamiliar. Plus the fact that my P3 boy refuses to accept that Plants can move (though not freely and not from place to place). In his opinion, growing/bending towards light is not \"Moved\".
Tmr is Sci paper.
Today the FT told the class that they did not do well in the MA paper ytd. -
E3:
Oh so very true! Look at the # of pages we, ph's parents have generated here.
IJJ, Pei Hwa results are usually above national average cos many diligent parents contributed to that too.
Well, frankly, I have not touched on any academic Science topics with my child yet this year, i.e. by sitting down with her one-to-one. She took initiatives to share what she found out from lesson, net or text/guide books. In tat, I take it as her tr played a part to enhance her interest, hence, I can let her go free gear. Of course, I hv yet to see the result of this subject in concrete numbers. -

Mine told me plants can move...I thot she learnt in school. :? -
dyh,
Yes, I had a hard time ‘accepting’ that initially. But plants ‘move’ in response to sunlight and not moving around actively like animals.
E3,
My son’s Science teacher Mdm Valerine Chen gets the students to write notes in an exercise book. Son enjoys reading the notes and is able to label the diagrams for eg the 3 or 4 stages of animal life cycles. Fortunately, he has a keen interest in Science too. This subject involves quite a bit of memory work.
IJJ,
Mimosa doesn’t move, but it responds to stimuli (characteristic of living things). -
IJJ:
my son did not do well in the mock test. that was a good warning sign for me, so hopefully he is prepared well for today.

Mummies,
Pei Hwa pages are the highest among all the other schools...reason is because there are many ladies here who are so willing to share what they know. :celebrate: -

Fingers-crossed. All the best!!

Mummies,
I can only hope and
that his CA1 grades are ok, bcos we have been revising since the beginning of Feb. Until 10pm last night, hubby was still going through his notes on diversity and life cycles.
