      trimummy:
      .

Then shouldn't the Indon govt be more strict in controlling the exit of such maids? I think the Indon gift should be more strict so that these maids will not suka suka tell lies to break contract and go home then within 1 or 2 weeks come back to Singapore to work for another employer.

Anyway, my no.1 question would be why are the new maids so problematic? Sorry ah, I'm dying to know...
Why are the new maids so problematic?
In my opinion, one of the reasons is due to our dear MOM's regulations regarding educational qualifications of the maid.
This is a double whammy effect on the quality of maids we get:
      1. cuts down the supply. In their home countries, some of the girls still do not go to Sec school. So these girls are not eligible to work as maids here. Take for example: it was reported in the Straits Times that the agents are having difficulty recruiting the permitted number of maids from Cambodia because many of the girls do not satisfy the educational criteria,
      2. the quality of the maids also declines
      - girls who come now are more manja. They come from the not so poor families. And many of them do hardly any housework at home. (In the old days, many of the maids would have worked as housemaids in their home country for several years while in their teens.) So how would they feel having to do housework for hours every day?

Hi, need advice for my myanmar maid. My maid is early 20, has many friends, don't save money, looks like she is here to enjoy life.

She agreed to not have hp when I hired her, but just one week after she came, start asking for hp and kept raising it. I said if your work is good I will agree, let's see for 3 mth. So on the 4th mth, she has a nokia phone (not smart phone). But since she got the phone, things all changed. She is addicted to it, carry it all the day even when she is working. Even make calls when she is on the way to pick up my DS from school, so dangerous! That day I scold her, she show me black face, said she wanted to go back to agency. But very soon she changed mind, said sorry and wanted to continue.

Now tonight, 1 mth after she got her phone, she told me she wanted to buy another samsung smart phone. I don't know how to take it...definitely I won't give her internet access, but my neighbour in the same block never set their wi-fi password, so if my maid gets a smart phone, she will have 'free' access to wi-fi. How do I handle this? Thanks a lot.
Hi, you can keep her phone during her work hours and give back to her at the end of her work day.

          Hi,

If I request for an exchange of maid, what is the norm period for agencies to provide replacements (within 1 or 2 weeks?) If I send the maid home to their kampong,is the agency is still obligated to give me a replacement during the ‘guarantee’ period right?

What If agency deliberately delay replacing a helper and resulted in the ‘expiry’ of the guarantee period, where can employers get refunds? Mom or Case?

Hi, wonder if anyone can help me. Due to personal reasons, I’m thinking to transfer my maid out. I want to help her save on the agent fees, so thinking to do direct transfer. I have a prospective employer on hand. Can anyone tell me what are the steps involved? Is it new employer just have to buy insurance and apply for work permit at MOM website?

I think you have to fill in the form saying that you are permitting her to transfer.

Just an update - I’ve gotten a replacement maid and am pending for transfer of permit for new maid.

Was told by agency that old maid is under my name until she finds a new employer. In the meantime I will hv to bear her permit levy and security bond. Is this a norm?

                      You pay both maids’ levy.

Most of the time, contracts would state eg. 21 days for maid to find new employment.

If your replacement maid has started working for you, you pay her levy. Your previous maid that you have sent back to the agency, while she waits for new employment, you pay her levy as well until 21 days as per contract.

This is so exasperating, no matter what employers hv to bear the costs. Called MOM and reply is the same.
