Yep, the name card can be obtained from the general office, I think you can also call the school to ask for the company's office number. I took school bus for a year before switching to public transport.

Hope everyone enjoyed the DSA preview today! It was a good opportunity for us to share our journey in NUSH with the parents.

It was not just enjoyable, it was absolutely amazing. Well done. I wasn't expecting to be so impressed. It makes a difficult choice much easier to make now.

To summarise:

If you're a math/science kid: Of course this is the school for you. Many opportunities for research studies, doing modules in NUS which count as credits when you enrol in university, overseas exchanges (more than enough to go around), conferences and of course possible acceleration plus dedicated teachers who are passionate about math and science.

If you're a math/science kid who makes a switch to Humanities: This is still the school for you. We heard from an eloquent Year 6 Lit-major student who is a debater, Model UN organiser and who is already doing Literature modules in NUS. She is pursuing Law after graduation. The VP also spoke of a student getting A+ in Literature modules in NUS, even with a bell curve grading system. The alumni who obtained a first class honours in Law in UCL. The NUSH student who is currently in Poland representing Singapore in the International Geography Olympiad.

If you're well-rounded and service-oriented: Also can. First President's Scholar, winner of National Public Speaking competition.

Such a new school and small cohort yet kids are gaining admissions into highly-competitive schools like Harvard, Princeton, Stanford, Yale, MIT, Oxford, Cambridge, LSE etc. Remember, these are kids who were the trailblazers, NUSH probably did not have the top top kids when they first started, so this speaks volume of the successful nurturing done by the school.

Something I noticed about students from NUSH is they are very genuine when they speak. They are very comfortable in their own skin, and not trying to speak like a politician or a debater. I enjoyed the sharing by the alumnus very much, the 4th year medical student. She was so natural and confident, yet down to earth and very humorous.

We stay at the bayshore road …it takes me 1hr 30 mins to reach nus high school by public bus …the prospect of spending 3 hrs traveling daily in discomforting .

May be we will have to rent a place near nus high …can anyone suggest an alternative means of transport which takes lesser traveling time .

I stay in Tampines. It takes me about 80 minutes to get to school.

It is indeed discomforting... I often say to my friends that I hate coming to school every morning, and hate going back home in the afternoon, because the trip is so long. But I get used to it after a while. Nowadays I usually take those time as nap time to supplement my sleep.

You can also apply to get your DC to stay in the school hostel early, before year 5. I thought of that too, but it's a bit expensive without the year 5 subsidy (700+/mth) and I'm already used to travelling, so in the end I still chose to travel everyday.
