Tiger Flask - Buyers Beware

I recently started using the Modernity range of air pump flask (Made in Japan) by Tiger and to my disappointment, the flask does not keep the water hot. Brought the flask back to the agent (Heap Seng) and they said that this flask is meant only to keep warm water. Who needs a hot water flask that does not keep hot?


The water kept overnight, about 8 hrs cannot even make a decent cup of tea. Temp reduced to only about 55 degrees as compared to another flask tested at 60 degrees Celsius. They insisted that it isn't faulty and claimed that it is normal (agent did the test). No replacement is allowed. I had this similar flask before but did not have this experience.

The original price of the flask is $119 and I bought during a sale at Isetan for $49. I guess good things don't come cheap, if it is cheap, it will be inferior.

I'm surprised. Tiger thermos flasks are really expensive and top of the line. Does the external part of the flask feel hot after filling it up with hot water?

Here's an experiment you can do. Fill up your flask with ice cube completely. Then pour in cold water and top up again with more ice cubes if melted. Then close the flask tightly and leave it at room temperature. From my experience, my cheapo $12 \"Bear\" thermos flask can keep the ice for 12 hours easily. If the external part of your Tiger flask starts to get cold with condensation, it means that the flask is leaking somewhere. Air has probably gotten into the vacuum area.

I am surprised too especially when they tell me that this model is from Japan so I thought it must be good. I’ve not had any problems so far with all my previous flask except this one.

I was also told by the agent to feel the outside of the flask. If it’s hot on the outside, then it’s leakage. The flask isn’t hot so I guess it’s not leakage. Btw, the inner vessel is not made of stainless steel but the old fashioned glass.

I will test it again with your method once I get the flask back.

That's what makes the flask premium! Glass is a much better insulator of heat. It also makes the flask difficult to stain or smell.

My new stainless steel air pump flask smells of almond. Not a bad smell but everyone is saying I concocted my own new water. Almond water. The smell is lesser now after 3 weeks. The plus point is the water remains piping hot at 78 degrees Celsius after 8 hours, it burns!

I bought the Modernity range at Isetan too. Facing the same problem.
