All About Primary Schools' Balloting History

hi all, i’m very new in this forum…
I hav a yr 2005 boy whom we going to register him for P1 next year so i’m very stress now coz i’m SPR & not really know the education system here in SG… ok, wat i wan to know is if we register under phase 2C in a very popular school, will we stand a higher chance if we stay within 1km? how the balloting actually takes place for 2C? i heard tat if the application (for 2C) for those who stays within 1km is already exceed the vancancies, then the balloting will be carried out & therefore no chance for those who stay outside 1km… is that true? i’m asking coz i wan to know if it is worth to move to somewhere nearer to the school coz i’m now staying 1km-2km of tat school… Pls HELP! -

hi lovekidsverymuch,
First of all welcome to KSP and since ur boy is 2005 born he will be registered to P1 in 2012 and not in 2011 as stated by you!!
thx for ur reply... but my boy is currently in K1 this year, so for him to start his P1 in 2012, the registration will be next year in July, isnt it? -
Hi noenothing
yes, since your boy is in K1, it will be register in 2011 and start P1 in 2012.
The chances will depends on the school you are interested. And it is dependent on a number of factors
- how many places the school intends to have
- how many places taken up by earlier phases
- how many applicants in current phase and where they stay; and how many are Singaporean and how many are PR.
you can based on the school's balloting history to estimate your chances.
btw :welcome: to KSP

hi tankee,
thx so much for ur clarification...
i plan to register my boy in Nan Chiau, which 1km-2km away from our hse... i juz submitted my application of PV recently but i heard from my boy's classmate's parent who submitted PV last year tat the school told them tat there is long waiting list for PV... so i guess no hope already
And based on last year balloting history of Nan Chiau, balloting is required for phase 2C even tho u stay within 1km, in this case does it mean that the applicants who stay within 1km already exceed the vancancies in 2C & those outside 1km all failed to even get the chance of balloting?
i'm confused & very headache on all these balloting system... hope someone can enlighten me... thanks a lot! -

Hi!
You are right. If balloting is for those staying within 1 km, it means those staying beyond 1 km will not even get a chance to ballot. -
oh my god... it seems like unless i'm so lucky to be selected to PV, else i will hav to move to within 1km of Nan Chiau... *faint*

Well, you have other choices, right? There are other schools in that region, too. -
Hi, is the latest info of vacancy of each phase and whether balloting is required available to the public during each registeration exercise?
Can I register for phase 2A2 of school-1 first and later when I check that school-2 phase 2C does not need balloting then I give up my confirmed place in school-1 and register for school-2 in phase 2C?
Thanks… -

Vacancies for all schools will only be out sometime in June.
You will know whether balloting is required or not for the category you are in after the registration ends for that phase. However, you can call up the school to find out before registration ends.wildboys:
