No, I am not a doctor, nor am I trying to diagnose anyone's kid or recommend treatment. I just gave my opinion in answer to the question if labelling helps. I don't expect everyone to agree, but I think it's useful to have a range of opinions.

Thanks for the info. But sounds like sooner or later I will have to face the assessment if it is autism.

I thought it is normal for a boy to progress slower... Recently, my 6yo starts his curiosity phase & asks many whys. I believe it is milestone for age of 4-5yo. To me, it is slow but at least on the track.
From what I know, autism can't be cured but can be overcome. One will learnt to realise 'things work this way' & will gradually adjustment oneself to accommodate such way.

Yes, at some point, if it is ASD, you will probably need some kind of diagnosis if you want your child to be given some accommodations in school or to get some kind of professional therapy. For us, it was when my daughter was 14yo. Others will choose differently. And yes, all of us parents try to help our kids figure out their way to manage in the world of school, social life etc. Some will cope better than others.

Guess I need to get a grip on myself rather than be consumed by unwarranted fears. Of course, vaccination was a non-event for my two elder NT gals, but when it comes to my youngest one, I have always had - sometimes - irrational fears.

For all children entering P1, it is a must that they are vaccined.

With reference to Singapore’s National Childhood Immunisation Schedule, all children (Singapore Citizens and Non-Singapore Citizens) should have completed therecommended immunisations before entry into Primary One

Haha... sad to say, this is how the world works, but is this method tried and tested? Banging table in school may work. However, I am not sure about MOH. I am interested to know if there are any parents who have 'exempted' their children from vaccinations.

Recently I went to visit a physiotherapist for my son’s gross motor development delay and she asked me if I have a diagnosis for my son’s condition. I told her ‘PD said GDD, psychologist said suspected ASD, OT said SID. Which label do you want?’

Yes, the label doesn’t matter until you need some concession from school teachers or MOE in terms of longer exam timing, exemption from MT, buddy-pairing for your son during class or recess, some understanding if your son cannot fully co-operate during project discussion and teacher stepping in during bully incidents etc.

Yesterday I was greeted by my son’s Chinese teacher at the door (bad sign!!!) when I went to fetch him and she told me that during the music and movement time, my son went to hug one of his girl classmates then after that he went to hug another girl classmate, she resisted and pushed him away and he slapped her. Both cried and the teacher told my son to apologize which he did.

Today during circle time, he went to hug his boy classmate sitting beside him and opened his mouth wide (like want to bite into an apple expression) but got stopped in time by the teacher. Do you all ever had such experience b4? It is a very new behavior for my son so I am like hmm??!!!??? In my mind I am thinking ‘is my son trying to be friendly or nasty???’

For the 1st time yesterday, he also managed to greet his 2 buddies with the right names in his social group without prompting and he interacted well with them even though it was only his 5th session with them. The Sped teacher said he spontaneously gave toys to them and my jaws almost dropped to the floor when I heard that. Then at the playground yesterday night, he saw a little girl walked away and he said ‘meimei go home. Bye bye mei mei’ and waved to her twice.

So my gut feel is that my dear son is finally aware that the little people around him are his peers and playmates. But then he isn’t really very sure how to interact with them thus the slapping and biting. What do you all think?
