If my girl never takes essence of chicken before. Is better not to let her try now right? The one you are talking about is for the kids one, am I right? Thanks

I gave son a bottle of chicken essence when he was in p5 on the day he had math...don't know if it was because of the math paper or a combination of math and chicken essence that caused him to be so tired after the exam. chicken essence is supposed to increase alertness.

Hi, can someone advise if it is acceptable for a student to adopt methods outside primary school syllabus for PSLE Math exams. TIA 😄

my DD teachers do not encourage essence of chicken if they never try before.

they have experience with some students that have adverse effects on the day of exam, such as diahorrea, vomitting.
i think the best is to eat normal meal, dun try anything unusual.

please do not give your kids anything out of the ordinary on the day of the exams...eat normal stuff & have sufficient sleep the day before.

Essence of chicken is like concentrated chicken soup. Some kids love it and some think its awful.

Mine loves it and it gives him ‘comfort’ to take it. I suppose for kids who simply hate it, it wil be better to take their normal vit supplements. Most importantly- sleep early n relax b4 exam.
All the best to all P6 kids!!!

I have ds a bottle 2 weeks ago, first time. He has fever and fell sick after that. I am unsure if it is related but I dare not try again.

Don’t think its due to d essence f chicken as it is nothing other than conc chicken extract. My son had fever a couple f times in the last few wks too. Think its due to virus. Keeping fingers crossed that he won’t fall sick during this exam.

Both my elder DD (now in JC 1) & DS have been consuming chicken essence (smaller bottle for kids) three years back. I gave them early in the morning to replace their honey drink. It provides both of them some form of alertness. Especially for my DD, if she does not have enough sleep the night before, she will bring a bottle to school. As to some parents' comment on tiredness after consumption, could be due to the kids having to focus for that few hours and hence, experience tiredness thereafter.

Yes... essence of chic is very subjective. Only ds will take it. My girls and I cannot stand the smell. They will vomit if I ask them to drink it. So will never offer it to them during exams. sil was sharing with me that she forgot to offer nephew and he felt so tired during his maths exam paper.

Agree on the viral thing. We were taking turns to fall sick and all this while, hoping that ds don't catch on a new virus from us as he was falling sick more than usual this year especially since PSLE oral time. At the same time, worried about him playing soccer in school.... eg. injuring himself... 🙏 that he stays healthy and safe during this period.

I currently give him manuka (UMF 20) on a daily basis and ask him to take vit c as well. Not forgetting once a week green bean soup/ barley.
