Eye Level Education Centre (aka Enopi) - Discussion

Hi,
I need help on the above.
Apparently, my girl (4yo) is attending Phonic & Reading class and I am planning to send her to Enopi Math. Due to financial problem, I can only send her to either one.
Any advise on which course are more helpful to her ? -
Personally, I think language is more important at this stage. Good language is required to read and understand maths problem sums.
For maths, you can alternatively get those assessment books and teach her by yourself first. My K1 started Enopi 3 months back and right now, the focus is very much on counting up to 20. Very elementary stuff at this moment that seek to train her on the ability to count correctly and recognise the numbers confidently. Another area is also handwriting. Assessment books can help to address such practise at this point. -

Hi fionong
In my opinion, will go ahead with the Phonics & Reading class. I believe in building strong foundation in the phonics and reading skill as this will help children to read and understand instructions and questions even in Maths.
As for Maths, for the moment, maybe you can teach her on your own by playing games or teaching her concepts with things we use daily, e.g. using coloured paper clips or clothes peg to teach addition and subtraction, etc. You can also get assessment books to let her practise after teaching the concepts. -

Hi MMM,Just to share.
My P3 and P2 started with Enopi since the beginning of 2009.
My P2 had attended kumon prior to joining Enopi.
In the case of my P3, she never did any pre-school maths enrichment lessons. It was only in P1 that I sent her to mighty maths out of convenience. Her P1 maths results was the 80s range.
In P2, I recalled that she scored 90 marks for her SA2. She is lot more confident.
In P3 CA1, she scored 80 marks. I think it's not bad considering that P3 is getting more difficult and unlike P1 and P2, I heard it's not that easy to score anymore.
Another observation is that my kids are learning in advance of their level. Eg. P2 learning P3 multiplication while P3 is learning more complex fractions, areas and perimeter that is probably for P4. So I feel that when she is P5, she should already be expose to P6 stuff and when she sits for the maths paper, she is able to handle it. With that, I will let them continue with their Enopi lessons.
Frankly, I would encourage parents to go for either MPM or Enopi depending on which is more convenient. This is due to the heuristics portion. Also heard MPM worksheets are also colorful like Enopi. In terms of fees, Enopi is $120 per month so slightly cheaper than MPM???
So for Enopi Maths should actually starts when like K1? Seem like there are many centres but wonder are they running the same program? -

Hi Titank,
For most of these maths program (eg Enopi, Kumon), the kids progress based on their ability rather than their school level.
I am starting my K1 early as I hope that by the end she is in P1, she can potentially be learning P1 or P2 stuff and maths is easy for her to manage.
But one observation is that Enopi may not be 100% following school syllabus eg. certain topics may not be covered by Enopi till later stage. For our instructor, she is intuned to school syllabus so she will actually let the kids do exam papers on top of their Enopi work or expose them to certain topics first,etc... to prepare them for exams. I am not sure if every centre does that.
It's also important to note that when you decide on a program, stick with it so that the kids will benefit and progress. Different prog have different focus so if you were to change prog along the way, the kids will need to do a assessment and sometimes as the focus is different, you may find them starting at a lower level for a new program.
Eg. I recall that when my son started after 1 yr of kumon, he was at P1 level for kumon and was fairly strong in arithmetic. But when he did the assessment in Enopi, he was weak in critical thinking and he actually have to go a step behind in Enopi. But he eventually catch up and the teacher is exposing him to P3 stuff. -
Hi MMM,
I am totally agreed with you as initially, I was wondering whether to let my child to take which course. But i understand from my friend Kumon emphasis on the timing, accuracy and there might be repetitive if children unable to hit their requirement.
Therefore, I arrange for him to take up the Enopi math. Now he is progressing well in Arithmetic and critical thinking.
May I know what is the reason for your end to switch to Enopi math.
