      TheAnswer:
Yes. Students need CCA so that they get bonus points. They use bonus points to offset their score for their O levels to get into their dream school/course.

CCA is compulsory. So I told son he must get one which is his interest.
Luckily only one CCA or else I don't know how he is going to manage 7 subjects and more hours staying in school. With Friday nights 'gone', his homework has to be pushed to weekends.

Some CCA are 2-3 times a week, esp on CCA days where they tired out easily with the long hours in school. They will adjust to new sch schedule somehow.

I remember having CCA many times in a week during my secondary school days. If your child is in CCAs which have SYF competitions, be mentally prepared for very long practice hours. I had 2 CCAs back then, Chinese orchestra and student council. I held leadership positions in both. Though I was constantly busy, I was happy 🙂 Time management is the key to managing both studies and CCAs.

I think it's ideal if kids can choose their preferred CCA.

Son’s CCA is until 6 most of the time…really lucky it is a Friday. Can’t imagine if he has to take 2 CCAs…like friend’s son. 2x or even 3 times a week, he has to stay back. Secondary school life is really different and tougher.

There is this English test on Friday for secondary 1s.

              Conducted by SEAB.
Wonder what it is all about and what is it for…my son said PSLE again? He has phobia for these letters, SEAB and PSLE. Told him to go for it…not PSLE, no stress and no need to prepare.

Son told me on Fri when he reached home. Not sure what is it for. Nobody prepares for it. Is the format similar to PSLE or Sec 1 format?

How many types of texts for history & geography accross the schs?

History: Southest Asia, China & India
                      Geography: Our Earth

I think Chinese is same for all.

caroline3sg, in dd's school, they are not using the one you mentioned above. Their history \"textbook\" is printed by the school and they have to take down a lot of notes in class. Geo, yes, our earth. Chinese, should be the same but got additional other works.

Yes. Most schools using Our Earth for Geography & all schools using the same Chinese textbook (HCL/CL)

son is very relieved and happy he is done with sec 1…i feel the same because i have a helper when i am stressed coaching younger girl.

next year will be tough because of the streaming…but this year has literally passed in a flash because of the longer hours in school and busier schedule because there are more subjects.
