Does your son mention that he wants to transfer school or you prefer him to be transferred out? Do bear in mind that his CCA & subject combination will be affected. I think it is better to talk to your son & his form teacher before making such decision. By transferring to another might not solve the problem. He still have to study hard inorder to do better next year.

My son was formerly from Catholic High. He enjoyed his 4 years in Catholic High & proceeded to NJC after O level. He missed his school days after graduating. Catholic High is like a big family & the teachers are caring. Many old boys go back to help up or even teach in the school.

Victoria & Catholic High are boys’ schools. Dunman & Victoria are located in the East. You might want to take these differences into consideration. Whereas, academic wise they are about the same.

Not all kids weak in MTL are able to get exemption. In fact, it is common for those who get AL1 in English are weaker in MTL. The average MTL grade of those who get AL1 for EMS will probably be around AL3/4. By giving AL1/2 to those who are exempted from MTL, might be unfair to those kids who sit for all 4 subjects.


Actually, MTL exemption is for kids who have learning disabilities. Some parents are trying to apply exemption for kids who are weak in MTL inorder to get into better schools. However, parents must not forget that their kids are expected to handle an additional 4 more subjects in secondary school. How are they going to cope if they can’t even handle 4 subjects in primary school?

One of friends son has gone to NYJC open house. He likes the school environment & location of NYJC. After much consideration, he chooses NJC even though it is very far from his home (Punggol). His parents think NJC is more elite as PM Lee is their old boy. Moreover, he was a a school team debater but NYJC does not have a debate team. He intends to study law in NUS.

Yes, you are right. You need to do well in your H2 subject in JC1 before being offered as H3 for that subject in JC2. NYJC students could choose 4H2 in JC1 if they are not DSA students. However, most students prefer to take 3H2 & 1H1.

IP JC students have to take 4H2. That is the minimum requirement to qualify for any scholarship. Preferably including 1H3.
