      Hi,

      May I ask:

      1) How much is the school fees nowadays for Year 1? Is it $28 per month (I read this figure from another thread).

      2) Are there so called ‘triple-science’ classes in Year 3 and Year 4 still? How many (XX) classes out of total of (YY) classes roughly?

      3) What is the difference between the BSP and CLEP programmes? BSP is from year 3 to Year 6, whereas CLEP is from Year 5 and Year 6 only? So if you are in BSP you cannot opt for CLEP or how does this work? What is the criteria to qualify for BSP and CLEP?

      4) Are there a lot of students taking a third language still at the end of Year 6? Or the figure dwindles down as the year goes by usually? What is the criteria for taking a 3rd language at Year 1?

      5) UG as a CCA would take up more time usually as compared to other clubs and societies is it?

Just trying to get a feel of how things work in the school nowadays as compared to last time, thanks for sharing.

Hi! Does anyone know if DHS Chinese orchestra is very stressful? My daughter has no experience with music instruments except recorder.

CO is a very demanding CCA in DHS....
        Twice or thrice a wk...depending...
Period leading to SYF competition, pupils need to go back sch for intensive practices during June holiday...
What type of instrumental experience requirements, i am not too sure...

Hi, i shall attempt some of yr questions as i dont hv answers for all questions...

          1) Cant rmb exactly how much is the sch fees + miscellaneous fees as it is deducted fr my hub's Giro...think is around what u hv stated...

          2) For this question, i think i hv answered several times before... 😉
Pls refer to the link below....
Basically, majority are triple sciences classes in DHS...

          http://www.kiasuparents.com/kiasu/forum ... start=2900

          4) There is certainly a huge drop of number of students who are still taking 3 rd lang at A levels...(whole nation, not limited to DHS)
Already, there is an approx 1/3 deduction fr yr1 to yr2...
Fr feedback contributed by 1 parent here, based on the number of pte buses which cater for DHS 3rd lang students to MOELC...

Eligibility for 3 rd lang will be stated on the child's PSLE results slip...

          5) Generally Yes....some CCA, like St John would need to go bk to sch on Saturdays...

                It's on 8 Nov.

My dd told me the open house this year is on 1st Nov, 9am - 1pm. She needs to be there to help out. There will be Principal's talk (10.30 - 11.30) and school tour on that day. Pls double check with the school if you are interested in attending cos I could not find any information on the school website.

Here's my dd's experience in DHS CO for the past 2 - 3 yrs:

Year 1: Only individual lesson at Shangyin Music School, once a wk, 45 min per lesson (pupils must pay!). Towards end of year, some pupils (very few, depending on tr) might join seniors for sectional practice (not compulsory).

Year 2: Besides weekly individual lesson, pupils need to attend sectional practice, once a wk.

Year 3: Starting from end of year 2, they will have individual lesson, sectional practice as well as orchestra practice (that's 3 times a wk)

On top of the above, pupils will take their graded exams in
August and prepare for a mini 'huibao' concert every year. SYF participation is mainly for Yr 3 & 4 pupils as there is always greater supply than demand of members. Of course there's also the annual concert which again will involve the seniors with some very outstanding Yr 2s. So overall, I think it is one of the least stressed CCA when you are in yr 1 & 2.

Not sure abt that... Sports CCA usually 3 times a wk, Performing Arts 2 - 3 times a wk, UG abt 1 - 2 times a wk (though it might be on Sat)

                      Hi

May I ask, is there triple science subject combination at year 5 and 6 (A levels) at DHS still? Just want to clarify as I read in a lot of threads that this is no longer possible. Thanks.

As far as I know, it is MOE's policy that triple science is not available in ALL JC and IP school in Year 5 and Year 6, as it is mandatory to have one humanity subject, and Math for Science students. That leave only two Science Subjects to be chosen.
