Thanks schellen - the links were really useful.
hquek and titank - yep, I am very willing to start volunteering or even moving - both need time/resources, so I want to be sure I'm 'investing' in the right school. who knows I may even try to volunteer at 2 schools just to play safe! -

depends on school, minimum is 40 hours. -
At least 40 hours under MOE guideline…however it depends on the target schol. The hot schools like Nanyang requires more.
-
heard some neighbourhood requires 60hrs, if so, nanyang might requires over 100hrs... :?

No lah, I think NYPS is 80 hours, but all this boils down to the school you are looking out for. -
I also heard that NYPS requires min 80 hrs.
TNS just requires 40 hrs, no need to exceed. -

It depends on the school. NYPS is 80hrs. I know some schools require 60hrs. But most schools still stick with 40hrs. The best is you check with the school you want to PV. It is really up to individual whether to extend the PV beyond the required hrs. Some do so because they take up the PV committee role in the school or in charge of certain role because they have specialised skills in that area. -
