Dunman High School (Junior High)

6 years of daily commitment. Distance is a concern. Need to get some views from experienced DH parents. Thanks !!!
Comparing DH & NJC, since both of them are government schools and similar COP (256/255) for Sec 1 posting last year.
For us, DH will take 60mins to reach, door to door from Ang Mo Kio : walk+MRT1+MRT2+Bus 158. NJC will need to take only one direct bus, 45mins. Of course, we can arrange for one way private bus in the morning.
Went to DH Open House in the previous year. Very impressive - strong school culture, bilingual, competitive and almost all students/teachers who we talked to were very passionate about the school.
Went to NJC Open House today. NJC is also a solid school too with smaller class size (25 per class) and students will most likely have the chance to take the CCAs that they want. Plus extensive Science and Research program for all students at all level.
Will the differentiated DH experience worth the daily commute "sacrifice" ? -

I was saying tt even IF there is such a combi of 3 sciences NOW, i doubt pupils would want to choose such impractical option of doing 3 sciences, n to forgo Maths...
Augmum, I don't get it. If you take 4H2 - cant it be the three sciences n one Maths (if ever such a combi is permitted by MOE). I think its was like that in the past?Augmum:
As to take up 3 sciences n to forgo Maths for the 4 H2 subj to restrict themselves the eligibility for Uni courses...
As 3 sciences n 1 Maths is no longer possible ....
So it's deem pointless to have this option.... -

Augmum, I was wondering too, especially as this MOE directive is nothing new as it's been in place for so many years already. Parents with kids in this age group would be more than familiar with it as would their children, who would be thoroughly briefed by their schools at the appropriate time.
Yes....it's not new....
The contrasting subj requirement is already in place for the Upper Sec, not juz JC level...
Parents who attended the Yr2 / sec 2 subj combi briefing...
Would already heard fr the schs abt the requirement of at least 1 contrasting subj... -
i think you can appeal if you want to take extra subjects. That is why there are top students with 9As carrying extra academic units.

Just confirmed with DHS HOD for science that triple science combination is still available for Year 3 and 4, but not for Year 5 and 6. Also confirmed that for the 2014 Year 3 cohort this year, there are 7 classes of triple science.

Only 7 classes for 2014?
What is the total number of classes for this yr ? So there is an increase in double double or increase in 7 units classes ? -
Augmum:
Not sure as I only specifically ask about the number of triple science classes in year 3. But I do see there is a decreasing trend of triple science class from around 10 classes in previous years to 7 classes in 2014 it seems, for year 3. My own guess is double science is more encouraged in schools nowadays perhaps.FantasyLandDreams:

But if a student is more of a science person....
Triple sciences give them the best option to try out all 3 sciences to decide which to drop in yr5...
N also no need to take up 2 humanities subj... -
Augmum:
This year yr 3 has 13 classes A - M. A is O level class, B, C & D are 7 units classes, E & F are double sc double humanities classes. The rest are triple sc classes.FantasyLandDreams:
