Are we allowed in to observe the kids during recess on the first few days of school?
-
Recall that parents of p1 kids allowed to observe kids but don’t think we can stay with them. Or perhaps I only observe as I wanted to encourage independence.
They really cope better than we think. -
Not so much of fearing that they can’t cope. More so of knowing what they are doing in school. Hahaha… strange mummy here. Was thinking how many days leave i should be taking also. hmm…

Hi all
My daughter is in P1 this year.
Just logged in and read some of your comments and would like to share my \"1-yr\" experience here. Haha!
Schoolbag - no need to get a big one as most of their worksheets/ workbooks are kept in school. Students can also choose to keep their art & craft supplies, whiteboard, etc in school.
Uniform/ PE attire - my girl has enrichment on Tues and Thurs and she only wears uniform on Weds. This will vary from class to class, depending on the timetable. I would think two sets of uniform and two sets of PE attire will suffice at the beginning. After getting the firm timetable, then can buy more if required.
Orientation Day - there will definitely be a q on that day. If Daddy and Mummy can tag team, things will get done faster. But generally its still ok, no overwhelming crowd. A little patience is required of course. Many opt to order online for the books and collect it at a later date.
Enrichment - school provides quite a few kinds of enrichment. My daughter took Jazz and Ballet, and its been great. She is also taking the Jazz exam. Going to stop ballet for her next year as after trying out for a year, she has decided that she will choose Jazz over Ballet. Also to free up time for her in preparation for P3.
Nap/ Rest time - my daughter does not nap at all during schooldays. Haha. She came from 4 years of childcare as well - with two hours of naptime everyday. But that will also mean that she will be tired and sleeps before 9pm. She wakes up around 630am - so that is an avg of 9.5hrs of sleep for her during schooldays. Weekends she will sleep longer. My take is - train them to sleep earlier on weekdays. Haha.
My overall feedback and view on SKGPS - it has been a great year! Teachers are very supportive. Being a relatively new school with lesser students to manage compared to other more established schools, teachers and Principal are committed and have more time to spend with them. They have many activities organised for the different festivals and celebrations, as well as those organised by the Parent Support Group.
My daughter have had a wonderful P1 journey and we look forward to more good times with SKGPS. :rahrah: -
Thank you julynn for the positive feedback! :rahrah:
Hmm... can i ask how about the homework load? -

spongebb, no worries! happy to share as I know many of you are going through the same as what I have been through. haha!Thank you julynn for the positive feedback! :rahrah:
Hmm... can i ask how about the homework load?
homework is minimal. and usually taken home if the child is unable to complete in class. they also advocate a \"No homework during Public Holidays\", which is good.
the only time when my girl had more to do than usual is during the PSLE marking week, and that is ok because they are home most of the time and should be able to finish them before school starts the following week. -
Any idea how much does the enrichment program cost?
And also since there are P3 students next year, will the enrichment program be converted to CCA? -
