Childcare centres that accomodate special needs kids
-
Hi,
I am also keen to know any childcare or kindergarten that accept special needs kids. (Esp around Sengkang area)
Went to 2-3 childcare but all rejected my ds as they mentioned they are not trained.
Very disappointing that support for special needs kids are not available.
Also wondering if we should not declare to the child care up front that ds is austic so that at least he can get enrolled. -
Karenthk, are you following up in KKH? Is your child in EIPIC? Can ask your doctor to recommend your child for ICCP? cos ICCP waitlist is quite long.
How "difficult" is your child? cos if not too difficult, the school should be able to take them in. my son has behavioural problems and need more attention in class. his childcare cannot handle his needs becos they have just enough manpower to handle the standard classroom size. they cannot attend to my boy only and neglect the other kids. haiz… im so sick and tired of them telling me this.
Punggol there is one cc that takes in special needs kids, Little Mighty Me. can call them up to check but currently they are full. -
Hi Gizmoz,
Yes my son is following up in KKH and now attending EPIC.
He is quite high functioning, however overall still slower than his peers. And when he has meltdown it is quite uncontrollable.
The child cares that I spoke to didn’t even gave us a chance and rejected us when we told them my son is a special needs kid. Immediately write us off and sat that their teachers are not trained and cannot handle as the class size is big. Didn’t even give us a chance or assess my son before even saying cannot accept.
So disappointed with our education system.
Thanks for your recommendation of Little Mighty Me. I will check it out. -
Karenthk:
Maybe look at it this way. It is better that the school declares upfront that it is not able to handle your child, rather than to let your child enrol and subsequently neglect him when they are not able to cope.Hi Gizmoz,

Dont give up. It took me about 1 year previously to look for a suitable MS childcare center for my ASD doter, so have to keep on trying. There are a lot of parents like us going through the same anguish, so you are not alone.
You can drop by the ASD thread, and there is a wealth of information on this. Just that have to plough through the 500+ pages. Hope this helps.

Hi
Is a tough journey for parent with special need child. It is hard to find a childcare centre that is willing to take in mild special need child. -
Dear parents
I have a 4 yo whom I suspect he has Asperger symptom. He lacks eye contact and social skills. We also observed that he is unable to communicate properly with us, e.g: confuse ‘You’ and ‘I’.
Quite often he will have meltdowns with screaming and hitting due to his lack of social skills.
We have been refered to KKH but he is not confirmed or diagnosed as autistic. He only have been refered to OT(July) and next session is only in October.
However we strongly think that he has Asperger’s syndrome. We intend to send him for second opinion and diagnosis some where else. Currently he is in mainstream school (nursery-my first Skool) but we are exploring and considering other special schools in the east side.
1) I would appreciate if anyone could help provide any information or feedback of a school that we can consider sending him to next year (K1).
2) if anyone could recommend for second opinion?
Thanks all in advance!

Hi, I would recommend not telling on enrollment- usually childcare centres will just not take in if you tell them. they are mostly ignorant or not well informed on it. I placed my son in my first skool and he was diagnosed with mild autism at 2 years old this year and I worked with first skool principal and teachers on my son’s needs. They were understanding as they have already gotten to know him when he was enrolled at 18 months. Initially they suggested special needs school but they became supportive and cos my son was mild and not disruptive they are ok. for that I’m grateful.
hope you managed to get a slot in childcare.
