actually my ds1 learnt conventional abacus when he was in k1 up to k2; it didn't help much in his mental calculations, so we dropped that before he reached P1. but i fully understand the battles we had been through getting him to finish his pages of abacus homework.

ds2 is not well-versed in mandarin (although he knows 1-10 in mandarin), so if class is conducted in mandarin, may have some problem....

My DS also learn traditional abacus from P1 - P3. Started late, but teacher was very caring and specially coach him as he was the faster student in class. He benefitted from it - has always been strong in maths, fast in computation and very sensitive to numbers. But I find it too late and I want him to move on with other area of maths by P3. That's why I wanted DD to do abacus earlier. DD is actually faster than DS and CMA curriculum is more rigorous than the traditional method.

Having said this, I feel abacus is just for foundation +-x/. Beyond certain stage, it is not beneficial anymore. Must start young, else don't bother to go into it if kid progress ok with counting.

CMA will exhibit our programs with booth participation (booth 52) at Suntec Hall 603 for three days (Friday to Sunday - 19,20 & 21 March) from 11am to 9pm.

We have a stage demo on Saturday 12-12.30pm and we are offering promotional $10 trial classes for maximum 40 participants on first come first serve basis on Saturday from 2-3pm.
