Can try after all still can do S1 posting at same time. If NUSH can gain acceptance you just need to reject S1 posting (ask for transfer). NUSH is a hot school with just 17 vacancies (10% of 170) , likely COP above 260.Hi My DD Got 258, Maths A* Science A
Got any chance for NUS, Please advise
Incidentally the school does not \"top up\" any unfilled DSA vacancies. My DD entire Y5 cohort next year (including Y3 intake of 30 ) is only 153.
That's tell you how stringent the DSA is and the PSLE posting goes to the highest T-Scores until the vacancies is filled. -

Most of the students in nush r geppers n high abilities students. By right they should be 2 years or more ahead of their peers , so its normal that they complete (o level) in year2. So those that has gone 4 years ahead can(given chance depend on mentor) leap frog modules. Those that r 2years ahead no point in jumping modules
Actually Geppers formed may be about some 10-20% per Y1 cohort based on yearly intake since DSA does not discriminate between mainstreamers and Geppers. Infact it is much easier for GEP DC to enter the 2 R school than NUSH. This is my personal experience based on my DD 2011 intake. Of course some Geppers with CO at NUSH last minute also switched camp to 2 R. There are some Geppers who only want to get into NUSH but are not given CO or wait list at DSA selection and ended with 2R, so NUSH system is very fair. -
heard that school bus only fetch students one way, only in the morning.
are there any students staying in Tampines ?
how do you resolve transport journey home ?
what time do you normally go home, on a typical day ? -

I believe there are school bus services plying (details you need to check with general office) but the service is only 1-way. By Y2 most will commute to school via public transport (MRT,Bus). Most kids use CC-line or EW-Line cum feeder buses.heard that school bus only fetch students one way, only in the morning.

NUSH kids come from all over the island far and near, including my DD classmate from JB, malaysia who commute to S'pore on a daily basis. The time depends on whether DC take electives, Jap/French foreign language and individual CCA. As semester goes, more group project and assignment come into play and DC may have to stay back. Smart kids now use virtual collaborative tools like google doc, skype . may be facebook to work to cut down on time spent in school. -
I stay in Tampines, and I have friends staying around where I stay.
The school time table can be found here: http://espace.highsch.nus.edu.sg/databa ... index.html It should be accessible. Not everyone have the same modules, though. Modules with a code that has a second digit of 2, i.e. 1211 or 5211 are electives, and is optional for students.
I generally reach home from 4 to 8 in my earlier years, depending on whether there is CCA and other electives. Different student's timetable can look very different based on his/her schedule. The route is far, but after a while it gets routine and can be handled. If I have to stay back, it would most of the times be projects, as said above. -

Some of my friends stay in tampines
The usually take 196 frm outside back gate to buona vista or Marymount n then they take ew line to tampines MRT station
The time they get home depends on what time lessons end which can be frm 1-6 or maybe even later if they hv something on after that -
Alternative route iss to go buona vista take cc line to paya lebar n then switch back to ew line but they donโt do this very often
Another way to go to buona vista is to go to the second bus stop by the overhead bridge n take 198 bc that can be faster
N u can also go to Kent ridge MRT station by taking a bus(not too sure which buses go thr but thr r quite a few) from the second bus stop -
My DS will be joining the NUSH family next year... and he is really excited about that!
I have a question I hope some experienced parents / students would be able to help shed some light on... What is the take up rate for 3rd language for 1st year students at NUSH? Are there more students taking the inhouse French or Jap compared to the ones offered at MOELC? Will taking 3rd lang be too heavy a load for the 1st year students, considering that there is already a big jump in the number of modules they will be taking compared to P6.
Any advice very much appreciated. Thanks!! -

It really depends on the individual. Those taking Jap or french has to pay monthly fee of $100 as both are conducted inhouse and not at MOELC.My DS will be joining the NUSH family next year... and he is really excited about that!

My DD took Japanese for 4 years on top of everything else. Her school mates that took Jap also last for 4 years. Hardly anyone drop out. The class is about 10-15 per year. With small intake and a full-time Japanese teacher for Y1-Y4. Each year they also take the JLPT exam by Japanese embassy. At y2/Y3 there is an exchange programme for NUSH student to go Kyoto for 1 week home-stay with exchange student. Likewise, the Jap exchange student come to S'pore to experience home-stay with local student.
One thing for sure, the students are all serious about japanese langauge and most of them scored A and A+ for every semester Japanese language exam. Foreign language are electives and good grade like A/A+ can be used to beef up the overall CAP.
\" Will taking 3rd lang be too heavy a load for the 1st year students, considering that there is already a big jump in the number of modules they will be taking compared to P6\" - This Qns can only be answered by the individual. In NUSH, the really good students can be taking many things at the same time eg Olympiads, CCA leadership role, foreign languages , research attachment etc. and yet still excel academically while taking part in competition. It is all a qns of time management, desire and passion which drive the individual. -
which foreign language easy to pass ?
Japanese, French or Spanish ?
