heard that school bus only fetch students one way, only in the morning.
are there any students staying in Tampines ?
how do you resolve transport journey home ?
what time do you normally go home, on a typical day ?
Some of my friends stay in tampines
The usually take 196 frm outside back gate to buona vista or Marymount n then they take ew line to tampines MRT station
The time they get home depends on what time lessons end which can be frm 1-6 or maybe even later if they hv something on after that -
Alternative route iss to go buona vista take cc line to paya lebar n then switch back to ew line but they don’t do this very often
Another way to go to buona vista is to go to the second bus stop by the overhead bridge n take 198 bc that can be faster
N u can also go to Kent ridge MRT station by taking a bus(not too sure which buses go thr but thr r quite a few) from the second bus stop -
My DS will be joining the NUSH family next year... and he is really excited about that!
I have a question I hope some experienced parents / students would be able to help shed some light on... What is the take up rate for 3rd language for 1st year students at NUSH? Are there more students taking the inhouse French or Jap compared to the ones offered at MOELC? Will taking 3rd lang be too heavy a load for the 1st year students, considering that there is already a big jump in the number of modules they will be taking compared to P6.
Any advice very much appreciated. Thanks!! -

It really depends on the individual. Those taking Jap or french has to pay monthly fee of $100 as both are conducted inhouse and not at MOELC.My DS will be joining the NUSH family next year... and he is really excited about that!

My DD took Japanese for 4 years on top of everything else. Her school mates that took Jap also last for 4 years. Hardly anyone drop out. The class is about 10-15 per year. With small intake and a full-time Japanese teacher for Y1-Y4. Each year they also take the JLPT exam by Japanese embassy. At y2/Y3 there is an exchange programme for NUSH student to go Kyoto for 1 week home-stay with exchange student. Likewise, the Jap exchange student come to S'pore to experience home-stay with local student.
One thing for sure, the students are all serious about japanese langauge and most of them scored A and A+ for every semester Japanese language exam. Foreign language are electives and good grade like A/A+ can be used to beef up the overall CAP.
\" Will taking 3rd lang be too heavy a load for the 1st year students, considering that there is already a big jump in the number of modules they will be taking compared to P6\" - This Qns can only be answered by the individual. In NUSH, the really good students can be taking many things at the same time eg Olympiads, CCA leadership role, foreign languages , research attachment etc. and yet still excel academically while taking part in competition. It is all a qns of time management, desire and passion which drive the individual. -
which foreign language easy to pass ?
Japanese, French or Spanish ? -

I can't really answered this qns. But for my DD, she has great interest in Japanese anime and manga while in primary school. She was already learning and picking japanese by herself so enrolling in a formal japanese class is a natural non-compulsion thing.
which foreign language easier to cope, or to pass ?matadorepy:

The good thing is that there are always some native japanese student within each cohort in NUSH. I dont think there are ot see any French or spanish student. Your DS can always try it for 1 year to see if he can cope and if he would like to continue ... -

how is the school life style like, here ?
do students tend to study on their own at home or do students form small study groups study together, during exam preparation ? -

The NUSH system is very similar to the University and Polytechnic merit system in assessing and grading the student performance.
If you read Artume's (believed just graduated NUSH this year) comments about the accelerated pace (y1-y2 \"O\" syllabus, y3-y4 \"A\" syllabus), the students really have to work their socks out throughout the year. In the early years y1-y4 (not so sure about y5/y6) , at least 60% of semester grade of a module is based upon quiz, test, assignment and practicals (both individual n in group) and 40% end semester examination.
Hence a lot of emphasis on continuous, independent self-learning, own initiative, drive and motivation to do well in school. Of course like all students in typical school environment, there will always be small groups who try to work together to help each other along the way.
The NUSH system trains the student to adapt to UNI system from day one. That's why no tuition agency can offer any assistance to NUSH students. I think the DSA selection process will identify those that are suitable and ready for NUSH. -
May I check if anyone has received an email to ask you to enter & upload your PSLE results ? It says to facilitate class allocation…hmm, something new. I thought there is no preference and class allocation is random ?
