If 84% of the cohort go A and above , it means the average raw marks for CL is above 75 - may be in 80s . So a 65 raw marks in CL could get a T score of 35 ( if std dev is 10).

But one point to note is that Grades can be to be moderated too.

I was just wondering if 84% get A*/A, how can there be a large standard deviation (again referring to what some other person said) unless many of those who do not get A*/A gravitate towards <30 marks raw score. And even then, how big can the standard deviation be compared to some other subject where say 44% get A*/A :?

I find it hard to square one (84% get A*/A) with the other (standard deviation of MT CL is higher than other subjects).

PS. Actually, looking at 2011-2013, it seems that for MT CL 77.8%-80.6% get A*/A, which is only marginally higher than MT TL but about 5% higher than MT ML. Can't find 2014, but presumably it has been published somewhere.

My mistake, past years before 2011,MT CL ~81% get A/A* not 84%.

Looking at current and last year results ( other than this year top score 280 and the next 2nd best top schs at 275 ), the trend seems to be hovering around 275 max. Is the bell curve flattened ? Will it be the same for 2015 with score around this range?
