so with Nail those MCQs, the parent and child has to be together to revise. I like the explanations but not the idea of answers printed beside.

Depends on the child I guess. At P3, I started out going through the questions with DD. Showing her how to make use of the book. After 3 or 4 sessions she was on her own. Likewise for DS. If after reading the answers and explanations and they are still not sure or convinced, then they ask me. If I am unable to explain, I get them to ask their school teacher (hardly happen, maybe cos they don't want to ask, 😂 ).

So far, with the way the schools teach them, this, and past years' papers, they have been doing quite well on the MCQ segment and that really helps.

Not sure about what orange the rest are using. DD is using Marshall Cavendish's Science PSLE Revision Guide.
        buds:
There are two orange coloured books in the market.
        mommylow:
This book adequately sums up most of the important Science concepts and facts in a nutshell. Good for a quick revision.
Thank you for sharing the book photos. I bought Everything You Need To Know - Upper Block guide based on another mummy's recommendation. Now I need to go look for this one. 🙂

        Funz:
For Nail those MCQ, we use it more like a guide than as an assessment or to test if DD knows her work.
        dimsum:
the book is designed in such a way that its front n back cover has 2 flaps. The child is supposed to use the flaps to cover the answers while attempting the questions.
This is very helpful. Thanks for sharing how you use the Nail Those MCQs book!

[Nail those MCQ] this book offers practice on mental elimination method. The close answer choices makes them think harder. My DD's carry out immediate answer checking too.

Corrections are written as a full sentence.
          Question and answer.
So does your DD write out all her answers? Not oral answering?

I like the questions in Nail the MCQs…but it is not an assessment book for me to test her knowledge. hubby likes it because he dislikes looking for answers.

My eyes nearly popped out when I saw this. Had to do a double take and check if it is really prepping the current P3 batch for PSLE :rotflmao:

Think still have enough time right? or are parents of current P3 really starting the prep work now (worry liao...) :yikes:

ok, since there's a question asked about the syllabus change, here's the announcement that I cut/paste from CNA:

PSLE English Language paper to be tweaked for 2015 examination
By Sharon See | Posted: 03 September 2012 1437 hrs
SINGAPORE: The English Language paper for the Primary School Leaving Examination (PSLE) will be tweaked for the cohort taking the national examination in 2015.

The changes will reflect the 2010 revision of the English Language syllabus, which will be implemented for Primary Four students next year.

The Ministry of Education said the new syllabus has a sharper focus on 21st-century competencies, which includes critical thinking and communication skills.

For example, in the oral examination, students may not be asked to describe a picture, which is the current practice. Instead, they may be asked for their personal opinion after being shown a visual stimulus, such as a poster or book cover.

The written papers will also include open-ended questions where students may then be asked to write a narrative from different perspectives.

              - CNA/wm
My ds said now his school oral is like that. U may want to check with your kids.

I have top schools 2014 P6 Higher Chinese exams papers (with prelim papers) by Jeremy exams papers. As my son does not take HCL, I am letting them go at $5.

Please pm me if you are interested.

Most Ammiel Wan books are quite OK.
