Students don't need straight As and stellar cca to get into nus med. Several of my dd1's classmates got in with a B, and just being a member in their cca, no leadership, sports, community work etc.


I think they must have done very well in their judgement test and mini interviews.

Ya I was v v surprised when I knew 4 nus med 1st yr students with the following profiles:
-Did 3H2s, 2As1B, GP is an A
-Did 3H2s, 3As but GP is a C
-Did 4H2s, all As but GP is a C
-Did 3H2s, all As plys GP is an A
They are all not from Raffles and HC
Prior to this group, I only know of straight As and fantastic CCAs getting in.
I understand the judgment test and interview are vital to entry.

That's true. I tot those with excellent ldrship will get in, they got other scholarships but not into nus med.
Interviewers are oso different now. Accordg to these students, one had an MP, another had a nursing professional. In the past, I recalled the Deans were doing them.
I am not sure bout this but I understand for law, the interview panel doesn't even kn whc JC the applicant is from.
Is it bcos you don't put it down on appln?
Is it the same for med and other fac?

In theory, that means that you could compensate for a relatively poor interview/ test with fantastic academic results. However, there's probably a limit to this given the high calibre of medicine applicants; many of them are likely to have close to or straight As.

Admission to Medicine will be based on two scores: the University Score and the Faculty Score.

University Score – computed by the Office of Admissions:
For applicants presenting Singapore-Cambridge 'A' levels: The best four content subjects (ie. 3 H2 and 1 H1 content subjects, with at least 1 content subject to be from a contrasting discipline) either GP or KI grade taken in the same sitting, as well as H1 Project Work, will be considered.

The University Score for applicants presenting the IB diploma or the NUS High School Diploma will also be computed by the NUS Office of Admissions.
50% of total admissions score

Faculty Score – computed by the School of Medicine
Focused Skills Assessment(FSA), Situational Judgement Test(SJT) and portfolio review\t
50% of total admissions score

I imagine they might just be slow in updating information since the new admissions cycle isn't due to start for a few months.

For NUS med, one of the stations is about the student's portfolio, so I think the interviewer should know which school the applicant is from.

Hi I am a new bee. My child awaiting results to go to JC in 2015. Any recommendation for good JC for Arts programme? This is my first child so a little anxious on JC choice and selection.
