When I DIY arranged my ex-maid to Singapore.

She agreed to deduct her 1 month salary and is also a win-win situation for both of us that she don't have to give-away 8 months salary to Agent.

Application is done online and I also don't need to apply any leave.
Partly my maid is very street smart, she went for thumb print and collection of work permit herself. :lol:
She has been with us for 3 years and I give her a EASLlink card so that she can travel to and fro my mother's house or attend courses at CC. Everything voices down to the maid's attitude and whether she can get along well with the family members...

The nett cost is $310 ( air ticket + insurance + bond)
But DIY means no replacement maid from Agency :roll:

Every business ( Maid Agent) needs to \"make some money\" if not if everything is done at COST then we also got no \"income\" liao. :celebrate:

First, find a maid who has a valid passport.

Then click on http://www.mom.gov.sg to apply work permit.
Just fill-in the maid data and employer data.
Within 1 day, you will get the result of approval ( IP letter). Then you just need to buy medical insurance + security bond from any insurance company.

Make sure the MOM has received the security bond before maid enter to Singapore. As per normal, you will need to bring maid for medical checkup and once she is FIT for work, submit online for issue pass and proceed for thumb print/ collection of work pass.

It's really simple and hassle free!
Everything is done online and you just need go MOM work pass dept twice.

Thanks sally72 for highlighting that it's not that difficult to DIY employ a maid directly. It's good to know - that if we do not want to be at the \"mercy\" of an agency, there is the DIY avenue.

I have myself just directly arranged to cancel my maid's WP on-line, bought her air-ticket on-line too. and will also just send her to the airport directly, and thereafter drop off her WP card at MOM. No hassle at all - just a little time to do it all myself. But it gives me a sense of satisfaction of not having to rely on the agency - which somehow always comes with some hassle or other.

Guess it's the convenience that we are paying for when we go thru an agency to handle such matters.

Yes I agreed my 1st maid learnt all this from the agency later when I came to know totally changed the agent :x

True, other maids do teach our maids bad but kind of surprised to learn of spore agents teaching maids to irritate employers, Oh dear this is really shocking! Ive heard one maid mention that her training centre in Indonesia taught them to be especially nice to the Sir in spore.
Aside frm changing agent , did u report the agent to the association of maid agencies?

Can't advise you on the above, but you can engage the help of a maid agency to do on your behalf for a fee. But if i am not mistaken if you renew your insurance through them, they may even do it for you FOC.

Try to buy those phone cards from mamak stores…they typically offer a discount. Eg a hello card cost $10 at NTUC but just $8 at mamak stores/those makeshift type stores.

My advice is to use phone card cos it’s toll free and there is a limit based on card. Set the rules regarding when she can/not use the phone. You may want to think if you should bar international dialing (fairly sure Singtel offers this service).

Else when you are not around, it could be a free for all. I read in news where a maid who was about to leave employment chalked up thousands of dollars in overseas calls (employer only saw the bill AFTER maid left).

My current maid is quite happy to use the phone…she’ll natter away non-stop for a long time - doesn’t matter to her that I’m paying the phone bills. Since we made her buy her own phone card to call home, she restricts herself more.
