[Geylang] Primary Schools

MMM:
The system that KiasuParents.com uses in Academic Excellence Ranking is based on how many students scored a T-score of 275 in PSLE. The criteria that i used is to look at overall school PSLE performance, in term of %of A/A* on all the subjects, on average whole school performance. In the kiasuparents website, there is a school ranking by academic excellence. GMPS is no. 27 while Haig Girls is no. 69. It appear that 2007 was the 1st year that Haig Girls has some ranking in the chart. Probably we need to consider the consistency of good performance.
Below is the criteria for the academic excellence ranking.
The KiasuParents.com Academic Excellence Ranking for Primary Schools is based on schools who have at least 1 student having a T-score of 275 or more points in PSLE from 2000 onwards. By noting the number of consecutive appearances for each school, we can get a feel for the consistency of the quality of students passing out from that school.
You judge for yourself which one is more reliable in a school performance: are you interested in a few top students results or overall school results??? -
Last year top PSLE student was from St Hilda’s Primary School. The second top PSLE student was from Geylang Methodist Primary School. GMPS has been improving since Year 2004. Although GMPS and Kong Hwa are almost the same in terms of acedamic, the reason why GMPS is more popular than Kong Hwa could be because
1) GMPS is affliciated to Geylang Methodist Sec School (which is above avg schoo). Also Geylang Methodist Sec School is just beside GMPS, so I guess some parents might think that incase their children can’t get into good sec school, they can still use Geylang Methodist Sec School as a backup.
2) Also FYI, Geylang Methodist Sec School is afflicated to Anglo Chinese Junior College. I guess these might be the reasons why GMPS has more votes than Kong Hwa.
3) GMPS is not a SAP school so not as stressful as Kong Hwa. Utimately, it still depends on your own child. -

does anyboby know the standard of Kwang Hua now. Heard that it has drop. :?: -
Hi,
There are always such talks about a particular school std has dropped, etc… and personally I wonder what is used as a benchmark to determine if the std has really dropped.
I wonder if the following criterias represent the school std is "intact" :
* Consistently produce top 15 PSLE students?
* Improvement year on year results?
* If they have more than 1 top 15 students in the previous ranking, they must continue to produce that?
* Any others
My kids attend a SAP school and it was my pri school. It used to be labelled as a top school in geylang during my era and recently, there are talks like the std has dropped, etc… Despite that the "std has dropped", it is still position as a premier primary school in Singapore and continues to produce good results. So I guess as parents, we just got to continue to support the school. -

MMM, you are right. There really is no merit to the term \"standard dropped\", because the basis for comparison is different for everyone. Which is why most parents depend on the PSLE results to determine how \"high\" the school's \"standard\" is. -

Hello
I'm new around here and have twins going to P1 next year. I'm within 1km to both Tao Nan and Ngee Ann Primary. I'm concerned my younger twin would find it hard to cope with Tao Nan so am considering Ngee Ann instead. Anyone has kids in that school or knows more about it and can share any info. ?
Thanks!
