My child (number2) and I are very disappointed to be rejected at the DSA entry and the appeal. He took it very badly and thinks he is stupid and felt he should not bother with any educational pursuit. He reads very widely and knows quite a fair bit of O levels stuff for Math and Science. His weakness is his carelessness and lack of attention of details. I try to encourage him not to give up. (sob, tears and broken heart)

Frankly I am rather disappointed with the MT requirement. PSLE syllabus is too narrow to determine whether a child is able to cope with triple Science and accelerated Math from Day 1.

He does not look forward to the school he has gained acceptance saying the syllabus
is dull and he already know most of it (except MT, of course). I am seriously thinking to put him in an international school or home-school then sit for SAT, AP in a years’ time or try again at Year 3.

Does anyone has any advise or any idea what is the standard to expect for the Year 3 entry exam?

Would it be A level and Y1 university stuff?

        Thanks in advance.

By the way, NUSH follows the same MT requirement too.

Year 3 admission will depend on mastery of the preview 2 years’ of content (mainstream), while displaying sufficient breadth and passion in maths and science. To be safe, perhaps read up to O level.

New Year 3 students will have to take bridging modules to fill the gap (if any) between their schools’ Year 2 content and that of NUSH’s.

How much is enough pocket money for food for a Year 1 student (whose appetite is much greater than an average teen). Does the canteen charge similar prices as food courts (kopitiam, koufu, etc)? How much does a typical meal cost? Thanks.

Nope, school canteen operator don't charge Kopitiam, koufu kind of price. I have not eaten at DS school for a while. My guess is the price is typically $2 to $3.50 depending on the meal type. Your DS (guess) obviously need double helping. Assuming he take extra meal, snacks if staying back late for CCA, projects etc, typically $10 (exclude public transport) should be more than sufficient.

Hi, I would also like to find out if the CCA training is once or twice a week?

                        Depends on the CCA.
