Hi Double E! Same here. My son is in a neighbourhood school because I want him to learn in a less competitive environment.
So far, it seems that my son is enjoying school life and is able to comply most of the time. He even asked me on Monday why school has to be 6 hours long and when it will be school holidays! Haha.
I guess my son needs to get used to the long hours as my son was at home for 1 year. -
phtthp:
The neighbourhood affiliated school I'm sending my boy only require 120 for Normal Tech :-p, not ACS.

Hi there,
ACS is a good school with affiliation which is important to children who are not very academic. I have a boy with ASD and I do not think he can cope with the gruelling Singapore education. I'm going to put him in an affiliated school so worse case & hopefully he can at least get into the Normal Technical stream with an affiliated PSLE score of 120. It didn't occur to me until I spoke with a colleague who has 2 boys in ACS.
Hope this helps.

Hi Double E,
Yah, me too! I am aiming for a neighbourhood school for my two kids. I figured that for my older NT daughter, I will push her academically for the top class as she is quite bright whereas for my darling son as long as can cope then
I am happy! But this neighbourhood school no affiliation to any secondary school.
But I don’t plan so far as I can’t see beyond 3 years for now! -
Hi Double E,
Actually I targeted another school, is a "branded" neighborhood school. But my psychologist prefer ACS or SGI, boy school. I will see how first. -
Just my thoughts.
Boys are less sensitive and tolerant towards special needs children and may poke fun at them, at least this is what my husband told me. He had a classmate who was weird and many of them enjoyed making fun of him. So, I thought my son would be better off in co-ed school in the company of girls. Haha… -
That’s true. My boy likes to play with a few girls in school now.

Hi pinkamoon and phtthp
Thanks for sharing.
pinkamoon:what did you do or send your child to so that he is prepared and can manage primary school?
Phttph: yes a small class size of 5-6 would suit my son at the meantime.I have tried to call a few school. The least class size is 1 teacher to 8-10 children. Even if have class size of 4-5 children would be very ex and rare. -

That was what my colleague advises me too. Her son has ADHD and in a boys sch. She said the boys in school were rough and will fight. Another friend of mine whose son is very introvert and has comms issues when younger told me to send my son to co-ed school too. She said girls are more nurturing and when her son was bullied, the girls will stand up for him.Just my thoughts.

But then again, there can also be Mean Girls in school who say hurtful things. In fact, I feel girls will not forgive and forget. Lol!! Whereas boys, after they fight, or even if they fight, will still play together. We just have to pray that our special kids will meet angels who will be nice to them in their school years. -

I share the same sentiments. Hopefully my boy survives better in the co-ed school my older girl is in. I think more or less the child will meet mean children. My NT older girl had to deal with some of it when she just started P1 last year but after the initial P1 period, she's ok now and had learnt to deal with it. Will probably be harder for my mild ASD boy when he starts P1 next year - I'm just hoping the co-ed environment lessens the percentage of bullying part and the affiliation makes it easier for my boy to cope as he's not academically incline.
I have a colleague with NT son in ACS, he told the older boy was bullied throughout his primary school years, wrote letters to teachers/principal and not much can be done. However, his younger boy in the same school did not encounter any of such problem.
Let's pray for our kids that they have nice classmates & schoolmates! -
Hi Snow24, my son was in fairly bad shape in K1 and K2 and only with a maid shadowing was he allowed to be in the CC. So, I delayed his entry toP1 for 1 year. I basically kept him by my side and taught him things he should know. He matured over the year and started to become better over the months and started to play with his sisters in last August. I have checked with his teachers. Other than being inattentive at times, he is physically with the class which is assuring for me.
Hi Florence thks & Double,
Great minds think alike! Haha. I also agree that girls are petty but again, there are always a few sweet girls around who will help our boys. Looking at my nieces and nephews, it is my niece who plays with him and my 2 little girls. The boys only interact with children who are more responsive.
When my son was at the playground making some noise as he was climbing up the mini rocking climbing panel, a group of bigger boys were laughing and mimicking his sounds. Bullying is also the reason my husband wanted to put him in pathlight initially.
I hope I have not made the wrong decision .
