      Joyfulheart:
I sent my daughter for The Learning Lab p5 Math tuition

for the past 2 terms after she scored only 65%
for her mid year exam. I am so disappointed that her recent
SA2 result acrually dropped by more than 10 marks to 53%
I will not continue with TLL which charges $100 per lesson.

I think like all centres, it comes down to the teacher who is teaching. They can have good materials but the teachers are important.
Another thing is teacher comes and go. I remember a centre i sent my dd to, changes the teacher almost every 3 months!!

Ai yo...are they teaching her correctly?? Heard all the stories of LL that's why i didnt send my kids there.

I understand from friends that LL have different type of teachers for different children, that is, their best teachers for gep. I'm not sure how true but a few of my friends said that their children did not improvement after attending LL. I personally have a bad experience with them.

TLL is an ENRICHMENT center and some parents may have mistaken it as TUITION center.

Enrichment center means TLL does not teach the fundamentals and basics but more advanced stuff beyond their current school level. So if a child who scores 65% goes into TLL (at P5), he/she may get even more confused. Join only if you think you want your child to be stretched further, like hoping to see an A becoming A*.

I know of two mummies who kept complaining about the TLL Maths and Science prog :slapshead: (i suspect because of the high fees, parents expected more). In the end, friends' ds (who took maths) and dd (who took science) both scored A* !

                    Hi everyone,

Anyone else has a child coming home with a difficult homework problem that you cannot solve? Besides the tuition centres, has anyone tried using those online tuition and reliable?

If you are staying near Gombak MRT or Bukit Timah, can try Fun Learners school. Their lessons are quite interesting & challenging. My son looks forward to their lessons every week. Try search: fun learners school in google and you should be able to find their website. I personally think its not bad but their lessons are quite limited. must have luck to have a suitable timing for dd.

To be frank, I dont see what all the buzz is about tution. This might be slightly offensive to some people so if you are easily offended, look away now! This is your last warning! Ok, now that that is out of the way, let us start. Frankly speaking, I never had tuition and yet scored 270 for PSLE, the same goes for many of my friends. I realised that in my school, those top scorers never had tution and yet did so much better than those with tution and I think I know why. For those parents who sign their children up for multiple tution courses, I am afraid to tell you that there is little use. No matter how good a tution teacher is, if the child is unwilling to study, than you are just wasting your money and time. Centres such as mindstretcher might be producing students with good grades, but they are so single minded and "stubborn" as they were taught via a rigid structure of teaching that does not allow for any creativity which is very important and useful in their future. For those parents who jam pack their childs schedule with tution classes, I have a question for you, "Are you sure that this is good for your child? All you see is his acedemic grades but not his emotional development. Have you tried stepping into their shoes before? Has your child become more of an object that you use for bragging rights and is no longer your flesh and blood?" I would like to end of by saying to all parents : Please cobsider your childs feelings and give them a more holistic development than to just hammer them into just studying because one day, which is soon, they would, break down and let’s see how you deal with the situation then!
