Hi Moustacher, is your child in P1 this year? If he or she is, then the percentage of grading for the reviews, show & tell, Chinese oral etc will be given only in Term 2. Typically, ALPS allow the P1s to ease and settle themselves into sch first before notifying parents of the percentage that goes into grading.

As the school's focus in on a holistic education, the students will not be graded (with marks) in the first 3 terms. They will be graded holistically instead.

      Hope this helps!

      Moustacher:
Other schs seem to receive lesson plans and other info about percentage of grading, types of assessments etc.. somehow I feel that these info are not given to us.

my main takeaway from the 2-day orientation was the short speech given by the Principal of ALPS, Mrs Lim.

She said ALPS's philosophy is GLOW.
And every child's worth is not determine by a number (grade scores)

So far as the first week has passed, i think all the above have pretty much acted out and i am glad as well as heartened to learn that.

i cant speak for all the P1 parents here, but i am more relaxed than i expected myself to be. Especially when u hear so much from other first time P1 parents in other schools.

i am quite comfortable with the way things are going and pacing out.

this further strengthens my beliefs and confidence in ALPS's philosophy and values.

              Hi sadistmy, you're most welcome!

I like that the sch's focus is on providing the kids with a holistic education. My child enjoyed his 1st year in sch last year! 🙂

thanks everyone. i totally agree with what the P said about first two years being the formative years where the main focus should be on nurturing good behaviors and attitudes.
