BOOK Fairs

Michteach:
Hey!Hi all,
If you are looking for a good 'lobang' for English books for primary school kids, I have one to introduce. I am not working in anyway with them..just that my students and I benefitted a lot from them, I have never found a supplier who does this vocab extracting thing. I got some books recently from this supplier and they have books that are not available in Singapore that they ship in from overseas, and what I really like is each book comes with a list of vocabulary phrases that has been extracted from the books- I use it to help my students with their writing. - what better than to borrow words and phrases from authors who are paid to write well. And I noticed that my students' writing has matured and is not so bland. In fact, my colleagues are also starting to get books from them as well. Anyone wants to know about the supplier, just drop me a message.
Mich
Wanna enquire if your supplier has the books \"Freedom Writers\", \"The Blind Side\" or Percy Jackson series for my tuition kids!
Also, regarding the extraction of vocabulary phrases, would there be additional charges added onto the cost of the books.
Thank you!! -
In thomson plaza, there are 2 stores of bkshop, 1 is 2nd hand bookshop (headoffice in bras basah) and the other store is selling brand new books and their books are not commonly seen in local bookshops, they ordered their own from UK and US. My ds love their books, can stand there and read for ages. So far has bgt some non-fiction books from them.
The 2nd hand bookstore is the best, i gt toto chan for $2, yg scientist for $1.90 per copy, some old pri chinese suppl reader $1each, tons of enid blyton fm $2-$4.90, last yr publication of assessment books eg i math and eng, eph challenging math probm sum which i gladly grab @$2.90each and many many more, need to sms my hubby to pick me later than expected.
When my hubby pick me up, i was grinning from ear to ear  , he say im happier to look at books than seeing him
Lucky he has never stop me from buying. -

Hi hquek,
Thanks for the info on the bookfairs, can I find out from you why the borders one is not as good, what are the discounts like? And for MPH, it seems very popular, but you mentioned some were not good, were they not good in terms of prices or the variety?
Sorry for the bombardment of questions, just that ever since I joined this forum, I have found a lot of good 'lobangs' for books..just want to make sure that I get all the info correct before I make a trip down.
Can I also find out about the Bras Basah bookstores, how is the kids selection like, do they have books like Percy Jackson, 39 clues etc?
A bit paiseh to ask so much, for myself I have one 'lobang' to offer. It is a supplier that sells books that are not found in most bookstores at a cheaper price- range from about 10% to 50%. The wow thing about them is they extract vocab phrases from the books as well and you get the phrases with the books-helps in creative writing. I could pm you the contacts if interested.
Anyway, looking forward to all the booksales!
Thanks! -
Hi pokemon,
Can I know more about the bookstore you mentioned that sold hard to find books at Thomson plaza, what are some of their titles?:) Also for the second hand bookstore at Thomson, is their head office at Bras basah also selling books? or is the Thomson one the only branch?

Hi MelodyXOXO,
I am not sure about the full range, I have not heard of Freedom writers or the Blind Side, are they books based on the shows? Anyway, I will pm you their contacts so you can find out more.
They have Percy Jackson.Their vocab phrases are free, comes with the book. They provide a file for phrases too… -

Sherlock Holmes? no. -

Borders variety not as great, and the prices typically pricer than other booksales.

As for the variance between different co's bookfairs and even within the same co (eg MPH), I think it really depends on what they are clearing. I'm into children's books and usually don't have time for adult section (me go library borrow). Also, if credit card co comes in to offer discount, it usually sweetens things more.
Times, Popular and Penguins are the other companies that do booksales at Expo. Went for the last Penguin sale - I heard past sales included Ladybird series (didn't see the P&J series in the last sale), what I saw were the DK books which I thought was fairly good value - grabbed a lot of those reference guides in that sale.
Last MPH sale was exceptional in that there were a lot of offerings, and the prices were very good (priciest is $8 for a single book, and if you buy 3, I think the price was lower) and UOB had credit card discount on top of those already good prices - so net I got a Robert Sabuda book (Narnia) at $5.40; also found 'The Giving Tree' (hardcopy) at that same price. I also saw books from Twilight series thrown around like rubbish. It was just amazing. BUT....such good deals may not be repeated.

Don't say liddat. I like sharing information...saves a lot of heartache.Sorry for the bombardment of questions, just that ever since I joined this forum, I have found a lot of good 'lobangs' for books..just want to make sure that I get all the info correct before I make a trip down.

Depends on your luck, afterall their supply is as good as what pp sell to them. I ever got chinese readers from panpac asia going at 50cents (that's the 2nd floor bookstore....the shop right in front of the escalator). I only remember the Magic Tree House series, a lot of Enid Blytons. Sorry, dunno who is Percy Jackson. Didn't notice 39 clues. Can I also find out about the Bras Basah bookstores, how is the kids selection like, do they have books like Percy Jackson, 39 clues etc?

Wow, makes me feel so :stupid: that i did not go for the last MPH sale.

well, there were previous ones I heard where there were loads of Magic School Bus books…couldn’t locate those. What I didn’t see, I pretend I dunno.
