All About A Levels

Wasn't familiar with the physics / econs one
In the old days, it was either double maths, double science (physics n chemistry) or double maths, econs n physics. About 50-50 between these 2 combis.jtoh:
I wonder how F Math would fit into the A level system we have now of taking 4 content subjects with a compulsory contrasting subject. Students who choose F Math would then be doing :
1) Math
2) F Math
3) Physics or Chem or Bio
4) Contrasting subject
Doesn't make much sense to be doing 2 Maths and 1 Science. In the old days, there was no contrasting subject requirement so students would take double math and double science.
Unless MOE is planning to rethink the A levels altogether. Or have students take 5 content subjects. Or relegate the contrasting subject to H1. -

and additional bonus points if one is applying to MT-related courses in uni. (I think it only applies if you get A though. not sure.)Kiasucy:
Anyone know how H1 Chinese grade will be used ? Is it considered as one H1 subject and also contribute to UAS?
UAS is calculated based on 3H2s, GP, PW & 1 content H1. MT doesn't count into the calculation. But if your MT score helps to pull up your overall UAS it will be counted. -

Will it affect getting scholarship then?
depends on the scholarship. but if all else equal eg . two students both have same grades, both outstanding cca but one has an A vs another D in chinese... I'm sure it'll be considered.jtoh:
I got a C5 for HMT :yikes: but plan to enter yllsom, will this C5 then affect my chances of getting in and will this also cause me to be prejudiced against people who score better than me in HMT but score the same with me in the other subjects for A levels?
HMT score doesn't matter much in your application to yllsom. What's more important is how you do in the interviews once you've made it to that round. -

hybrid course is under science stream. don't put arts unless you don't mind going arts course. (I would advise against taking H2 sci though because you'll really struggle since you only took combined sci).Hello! I have a net l1r5 of 8 after deducting 2points (cca). I am deciding between nyjc and catholic . I want to put nyjc as my first choice but I'm 1 mark higher than the cop for science (7) and just at the cut off point for the arts course (8)
However for o level, I took combined science (phy, chem) , though I manage to score an a1, I believe it will be difficult to have 2 h2 science subjects.
These are the subjects I took in o lvl:
Eng(b3)
combined humanities(a2)
Combined science (phy,chem) (a1)
Maths (a1)
Amaths (a2)
Chinese (a1)
Pure geography (a2)
I want to do a hybrid subject combi in Jc.
So when I'm doing the jae exercise, do I put both course for nyjc as my first two choice? Than catholic.
and on that note, if you plan on going arts, CJ has a stronger arts prog than NY. -
For science stream,
I heard ACJC is well balanced, with good science programmes as well. The cut off for ACJC is only 1 point lower.
But in the A'level results, is there a really big difference?
But the alumni of AC is bound to be way stronger, with more opportunities.
But VJC is also so much nearer....
can anyone give me any opinion of these schools?

I’ve got a raw of 8
Eng A2
Chem A1
Bio A1
E.Lit A1
combined humans A1
emath A2
HCL D7
so 8-2=6, offered ESIP
do I have a chance of appealing successfully in VJC science? because I heard it is risky to put a school you don’t meet the COP for as first choice…or should I be content with gunning for ACJC?
( a little desperate, sorry)
any opinion is very much welcomed!! -
last year VJ had around 50% students with at least 3h2 dist:) I think for acjc it's around 30%? and VJ is my alma mater, so I'll definitely encourage you to go VJ
don't regret my decision at all. -
Problem is i missed the COP by 1... So is it worth appealing?

-
Depends. What are you appealing with?

dreamerz718:
Are you planning to appeal to VJ if you don't get in? If so, then put VJ as first choice. I think it's pretty safe to put AC as second, chances are you'll get in even if it's your first or second choice.I've got a raw of 8

Chem A1
