Yes it is. Exactly how I felt when I knew abt my boy's condition. All the expectations, the things that I have planned and envisaged are all gone. Now is to go with the flow and follow his pace.Hi all,
This was posted by one of the mummies in a yahoo group which I am a member. Found it especially applicable to all of us here.
This is what is said...
I read this in a cookbook (of all places) and thought it applied to many moms' situations-- moms who are where they are, not by choice.

Quote below:
---------------------------------------------
I am often asked to describe the experience of raising a child with a disability-- to try to help people who have not shared that unique experience to understand it, to image how it would feel.
It's like this...
When you're going to have a baby, it's like planning a fabulous vacation trip -- to Italy. You buy a bunch of guide books and make wonderful plans. The Coliseum. The Michelangelo David. The gondolas in Venice. You may learn some handy phrases in Italian. It's all very exciting. After months of eager anticipation, the day finally arrives. You pack your bags and off you go. Several hours later, the plane lands. The stewardess comes in and says, \"Welcome to Holland.\" \"Holland?!?\" you say. \"What do you mean Holland???? I signed up for Italy! I'm supposed to be in Italy. All my life I've dreamed of going to Italy.\"
But there's been a change in the flight plan. They've landed in Holland and there you must stay. The important thing is they haven't taken you to a horrible, disgusting, filthy place full of pestilence, famine, and disease. It's just a different place.
So you must go out and buy new guide books. And you must learn a whole new language. And you will meet a whole new group of people you would never have met.
It's just a different place. It's slower-paced than Italy, less flashy than Italy. But after you've been there for a while and you catch your breath, you look around... and you begin to notice Holland has windmills... and Holland has tulips. Holland even has Rembrandts.
But everyone you know is busy coming and going from Italy... and they're bragging about what a wonderful time they had there. And for the rest of your life, you will say, \"Yes, that's where I was supposed to go. That's what I had planned.\"
And the pain of that will never, ever, ever, ever go away... because the loss of that dream is a very very significant loss. [italics and bold mine]
But, if you spend your life mourning the fact that you didn't get to Italy, you may never be free to enjoy the very special, the very lovely things... about Holland.

Good to hear that! -
Hi Gifts from Heaven,
What a poetic way to explain our situation! Thanks for sharing! I think now that I am 1.5 years into this journey, at least I can enjoy the scenery abit more - wah, what a large windmill! But honestly there are some days when the sadness descends on me and I got into auto mode to pass the days. And I also feel that for us, it really takes one to know one what we are going through and pat each other for the job well-done. There is undoubtedly tears and sweat behind each special child’s success. -
Hi Niu2009,

Ya, do agree! Sadness is from the bottom of heart. -
Hi Mashy,
Thank you for your encouragement on the phasing out of eating restrictions!

My doctor recommended me to read about 'Raun Kaufman' and his methods for healing asd. He himself was a non verbal autistic kid. Now he is completely healed. Apparently, they conduct workshops on how to do it. If anyone has heard about it, let me know. My doctor said she tried it out and she could see the improvement in her child.
Hi! This is sonrise programme. I have mentioned it in the past but did not garner interest from the group. I am happy that someone (Mashy) mentioned about it.
Wow, Gifts from Heaven, you have a fantastic memory!!!
I have gone for the startup programme in USA somewhere in 2013. I used it on my son for half a year and after that supplemented it with Neurofeedback to get him to where he is today.
Initially, my son did not have good eye contact and only liked to play on his own. After joining him and spending quality time together, he wanted to play with me all day long. I delayed him for a year in school after he completed K2, running sonrise on my own and doing neurofeedack at the same time.
Sonrise programme is an excellent programme. It was something I was doing all along but with less intensity. Even my sceptical husband who attended the startup with me agrees that sonrise principles are good.

Btw, Mashy, your son is in P4 and doing well. What is your general concern? -
Congrats Niu2009! You have gotten the first interest from your investment!
