I am looking for K2 English & phonics teacher for my girl. It can be private or in small group. Any recommendations?

        Hi babykodimo,

I was also looking around for phonics class for my 3yo dd. How's your feedback on i-CL and mindchamps reading & writing? TIA!

        babykodomo:
My boy is 3.5yo and I am deciding among these 3: Mrs Sam's, i-CL and Mindchamps reading&writing.
Seems like Mrs Sam's and i-CL have similar focus on the program which I liked. However, after visiting Mrs Sam's, I am quite disappointed that the teachers are relatively young and the place was quite rundown, with only 1 adult toilet!
I am scheduling for assessment at i-CL and MC within this week before deciding.
Appreciate if any parents here can enlighten/advise if i-CL program is comparable to Mrs Sam's or any feedback/testimonials for MC? TQ

          Hi,

My son is 5 yrs old but still unable to read. I am looking for a reading programme for him. May I know the difference between "I Can Read" and "LCentral"?
Anyone has experience with the two centres at the Bukit Timah branch?
          Which is better?
          Any recommendations?

I've tried ICR for awhile, but did not see any improvement, felt so wasted, money down the drain, so stopped for a period of time 😞

Felt that dd is ready to start again and was not sure which program would be suitable for her, but heard of a freelance tutor who specializes in phonics and decided to try her out as her rates were pretty reasonable and the best part...she comes right up to my doorstep! Hehe. For a reasonable rate and 1-to-1 service, I thought, why not? I'm paid more for ICR anyway.

Honestly, I was initially skeptical about the effectiveness of the program as well. I mean at $50/1.5hr session for 1-to-1 home class, what can I expect right? (I do know of others who charge up to $150 per session D:) But I was surprised when I met the teacher for the first time, she was young and bubbly and was very enthusiastic in her teaching, dd enjoys her sessions very much and she is also creative in her teaching methods. She makes use of lots of games and interactive tools instead of solely paper and pencil which can sometimes get very boring for young children.

Have seen so much improvement as compared to ICR, better service and better price haha... So mummies, expensive does not mean it is always good...

Anyway, good things must share! So pleased with dd's progress and hope to help you too! Pm me for her contact details if interested! She also offers creative writing sessions at a slightly cheaper rate, but dd is still too young for that, will try it out in the future when she is old enough hehe...

Hi lovellejoy, can share with me the contact for your private tutor. Tks

One of my kid is doing Reading and Phonics Enrichment lessons with this school call Our Klass-Room. Very good. We took on extra English Phonics classes in school and my kid was unable to code and de-code after 1 year with them. I switch him to Our Klass-Room and my kid with them after 3 months is able to read all by himself with minimum correction.

Spelling also improve a lot cause able to spell using the sounds of the words. Their office is next to Lavender MRT so you may want to consider them if you stay around that area.

                  Hai,

I do suspect about having short span attention in my kid. For me his school is really good in sharing the behavioral aspects with me. I join my kid in phonics class. Also I enrol him to the speech and drama as well as the art and craft classes provided by the school management.
Now, I am quite satisfied with his knowledge level which absolutely matches the age. Also he interacts with the teachers really well.My kid always likes to play more. However, the way of deviating his concentration to other fields by means of meaningful interactions seems to be helpful in developing his mental maturity.

Thank you for the information. I always be thinking on introducing new strategies to activate my child’s brain. Is it the place where more attention is provided to stimulate the right hand side of the brain? I heard in one of the centre teaching and learning strategies are formulated in such a way that the child discovers him to explore things in the right way.

My kid went for phonics read where he quickly learn to isolate, segment the one to one correspondence between letter and sound and also how to blend the sounds to spell the word. Their method is truly magical as my kid is able to read sentences in ease.

                        Hi everyone, I’m new here.

Just wish to check anyone has sent their child to this English enrichment centre called Jan & Elly? Wish to check on the success rate in child being able to master the phonics and blending well to be able to read independently after ? months of attending the program. Anyway, I just enrolled my k2 child into their phonics intermediate programme, but their lesson only 1 hour a week. Not sure if it’s sufficient, but my boy enjoyed his first session… any comment is appreciated. Thanks!
