Blobbi:
hi Blobbi,
BTW hquek, did you see any Sherlock Holmes for sale?
Sherlock Holmes? no. -
Michteach:
Borders variety not as great, and the prices typically pricer than other booksales.
can I find out from you why the borders one is not as good, what are the discounts like? And for MPH, it seems very popular, but you mentioned some were not good, were they not good in terms of prices or the variety?
As for the variance between different co's bookfairs and even within the same co (eg MPH), I think it really depends on what they are clearing. I'm into children's books and usually don't have time for adult section (me go library borrow). Also, if credit card co comes in to offer discount, it usually sweetens things more.
Times, Popular and Penguins are the other companies that do booksales at Expo. Went for the last Penguin sale - I heard past sales included Ladybird series (didn't see the P&J series in the last sale), what I saw were the DK books which I thought was fairly good value - grabbed a lot of those reference guides in that sale.
Last MPH sale was exceptional in that there were a lot of offerings, and the prices were very good (priciest is $8 for a single book, and if you buy 3, I think the price was lower) and UOB had credit card discount on top of those already good prices - so net I got a Robert Sabuda book (Narnia) at $5.40; also found 'The Giving Tree' (hardcopy) at that same price. I also saw books from Twilight series thrown around like rubbish. It was just amazing. BUT....such good deals may not be repeated.

Don't say liddat. I like sharing information...saves a lot of heartache.Sorry for the bombardment of questions, just that ever since I joined this forum, I have found a lot of good 'lobangs' for books..just want to make sure that I get all the info correct before I make a trip down.
Michteach:
Depends on your luck, afterall their supply is as good as what pp sell to them. I ever got chinese readers from panpac asia going at 50cents (that's the 2nd floor bookstore....the shop right in front of the escalator). I only remember the Magic Tree House series, a lot of Enid Blytons. Sorry, dunno who is Percy Jackson. Didn't notice 39 clues. Can I also find out about the Bras Basah bookstores, how is the kids selection like, do they have books like Percy Jackson, 39 clues etc?

Wow, makes me feel so :stupid: that i did not go for the last MPH sale.
-
well, there were previous ones I heard where there were loads of Magic School Bus books…couldn’t locate those. What I didn’t see, I pretend I dunno.

Actually the 'stores' i mentioned are not a real shops but aka makeshift stores at the open space on the grdfloor of thomson plaza. They are only there for a short period of time but will often make a comeback. According to the person incharge, she told me their office is at bras basah, also selling books. Last sunday was their last day, they often move around to other malls. They really have alot of titles on sale, i think books for all agesHi pokemon,
Can I know more about the bookstore you mentioned that sold hard to find books at Thomson plaza, what are some of their titles?:) Also for the second hand bookstore at Thomson, is their head office at Bras basah also selling books? or is the Thomson one the only branch?
plenty of cooking books, dan brown books, sydney sheldon, bible stories, children non-fiction information hardcover books....aiyah v wide range i cant possibly list all. :frustrated:

Hi Michteach,
Yes! Both Freedom writers and The Blind Side are based on movies!!
Both movies have been really inspiring to me and especially for Freedom Writers, I have yet to see the book on the racks, have been searching high and low for this book. Let me know if they have these books!
They have the entire collection of Percy Jackson?! Wow great! Anyway, do they bring in any imported books? The racks of Popular are really getting a little boring and common while the books in kino are really expensive. =(
Thanks so much for the contact! Do they have a mailing list or a book list where I can more conveniently search for book titles? -
Michteach:
Wow that's interesting to hear.. I remember extracting vocab words whenever i read when i was younger and copying it into a book where i would write all the meaning of the words from the dictionary.Hi MelodyXOXO,
I am not sure about the full range, I have not heard of Freedom writers or the Blind Side, are they books based on the shows? Anyway, I will pm you their contacts so you can find out more.
They have Percy Jackson.Their vocab phrases are free, comes with the book. They provide a file for phrases too..
By the way, do you know if they carry the series \"Diary of a whimpy kid\"? -
Hi hquek,
Thanks so much for your detailed reply..I now have a wide array of bookstores and fairs to go too, am definitely going for the MPH one- sounds fantastic, hopefully it will be as good as the last one you went to.:) -
