Just a quick review of Sonrise startup programme.
What prompted me to go to USA for the startup programme?
1. I came across Sonrise programme on the Internet and youtube and that prompted me to find out more about it because I felt that OT/ ST sessions were not helping enough. Moreover, I was the one playing with my son during OT sessions because my OT felt that I had a better connection with my son. He was behind coaching me what to say and do (something I am thankful for and laid foundation for sonrise).
2. I needed to see for myself someone who is practising sonrise and listen to what the parents have to say. I mean I need to know that my money is well spent, right? God pointed me to this beautiful family and they are the nicest people I have met. Samantha simply let my husband and I into their house and showed us their sonrise room and shared with us about sonrise. That was when we decided to take the bet to travel to US for the programme.
3. The 5 days course was amazing. We learnt a lot from all the speakers and we simply adore William! He is so knowlegeable and gives so many good examples that are useful for us parents.He is the brother in law of Raun and has an adopted girl who turned out to be ASD (Jade). Simply google JADE, SONRISE in youtube and u will see her videos.
4. Sonrise programme is a home based programme. Parents and volunteers run their own programme so it is cost effective. I did my sums. I spend 1 thousand on OT and ST each month. Although I pay a 3.5 k for the course( meals and lodging there), in the long run, I am still better off and I get to work with my son everyday.
5. If u ask me, I have absolutely no regrets attending sonrise programme. All I can say is, these people are genuine in sharing what works for ASD children. They are not out to cheat your money, but sharing what parents can do to help their children become better.
6. Raun, the first boy to recover using sonrise programme is here in Singapore. Listen to what he is going to share and judge for yourself if you want to do this at home.
7. When I signed up for the start up programme, I met parents from all over the world, all eager to help their children. Even parents who have ASD children in their teens came. Even an 18 year old boy from Portuguese. He always feels that he is aspergers so despite his mum's disapproval, he was there. I think because we looked harmless, he stuck with us right from the start and we became friends.
8. All parents have different sets of belief and I understand some may not agree with what I do or say. I do not get paid for this review or publicising sonrise programme, nor does my friend who is doing all her best in helping Singapore parents get a chance to learn about sonrise programme.
9.The people behind Raun's seminar in Singapore are just ordinary mothers who have seen how sonrise programme has helped their children and are giving hope to other parents. The time, effort and money they have devoted get no monetary return. In fact, I think my friend is coming out with the $ herself!
So, what I can help is to spread the words around and hope parents who want to help their children will register for the event. I mean, it took me so much effort to find out about sonrise and I even sold my condominium to buy a flat so that I can have a bigger space to play with my son. I even resigned from my previous job to do full time sonrise with him. (This is true)
So, for those who are interested, go for the seminar. Not for giving support to me nor my friend. It is about your own child.

It is similar to floor time but different in the sense that parents practising sonrise do not discourage repetive movements. Instead we do it together with them to gain their trust. Sonrise is about Enthusiasm, energy and excitement. Parents celebrate in an exaggerated way when children do something correctly to gain their eye contact.

Is anyone’s child in EIPIC? Did you experience a fee increase in 2015?
My son is in AWWA early intervention. His fees went up from $500 a month to $700 a month. Its a whopping 40% increase!
No more money in CDA. Had to withdraw him from early intervention. Very upset. -

The increment in AWWA is too much!! $200 at one shot, should do so gradually.
If you son is mild and has been improving, I feel that EIPIC can be dropped and move on to something else more academic to prepare for primary school. That's what I am doing now. -

Perhaps. Still, disregarding the doctor's recommendation is not something one wants on his conscious. Wife wants to continue in spite of the increase. Finances are a bit strained so I voted otherwise. How can anything go up by 40%?!

He is just surviving on his mainstream kindy diet. We are watching closely.

My boy is with Berries for Chinese, has maths tuition and I am going to start him on I can Read soon. He has been on Berries and tuition since 4 years old. He is 6 this year. -

Thanks. DS is also 6 this year. His mom started him on Berries this year for reasons still unknown to me (sorry, forgot about this). I plan to get him exempted from Chinese.

Was thinking of I Can Read too.
His kindy wants me to teach him to read and write at home. So I am spending my nights teaching him phonics for 3 letter words. Tiring. When he can master those, I will then sign him up for I can Read.
Same for you? Do you have to prepare your son for I Can Read?
