It depends on the school. NYPS is 80hrs. I know some schools require 60hrs. But most schools still stick with 40hrs. The best is you check with the school you want to PV. It is really up to individual whether to extend the PV beyond the required hrs. Some do so because they take up the PV committee role in the school or in charge of certain role because they have specialised skills in that area. -

It is not possible for the school to know how many people will register in P2B because this phase is also open to community leaders. Hence, the school can only control the number of PVs, but it is still possible that balloting will occur due to overwhelming response from community leaders. -

The School shall not be held responsible in the event that the \"succussful PV\" is not able to meet the minimum 80 clocked hours of volunteering service. As such, the \"successful PV\" shall not entitled to priority registration under Phase 2B. -

If you look at a few more years back for NYPS P1 registration, you will find the number of vacancies for any phases are not fixed. This also the same for any school. The reason why the number of PV is not very much higher than the vacancies is because the school controls the in-take of PV. The same thing is done in many other popular schools too. -

Phase 2B is 50% of remainder vacancies after the earlier phases, and the other 50% is \"Open Cat\"under phase 2C.
NYPS tries every year to \"forecast\" the number of remainder vacancies after Phase 2A in subsequent years, and hence the number of PV taken in would roughly hover around 50% of the places after Phase 1 & 2A.
The idea is not to disappoint any PV, and generally they prefer (unspoken) PVs who stay nearby to avoid unsuccessful balloting of PV in the unlikely event that PV outnumbers Phase 2B vacancies.
Try to put yourself in the shoe of the principal. There are definitely opportunities for PV but at the same time cannot be too liberal and end up disappointing PV who are staying far away due to insufficient places in phase 2B and also unlucky in the balloting of PV who are staying further away -

If PV is keen and in the spirit of the PV, then it does not matter whether is 40 or 80 or 120 hours .......that is really Parent volunteer ....... -

I have been looking at the Phase 2B vacancies / balloting of NYPS for the past 12 years......it is a rare thing to ballot the PV at 2B.....they have been quite good in gauging the demand and supply .... better than forecasting the number of cars deregistering .......lolz
