I have been giving your concerns some thought and for the time being, let's say we cross the bridge when we come to it. In other words, let's put that worry temporarily on hold. Sometimes when we as parents are fearful and anxious, our children pick up on our vibes too. We don't want them to lose faith and confidence because they can sense our anxiety.

Instead, let's think of strategies on how we can help the child instead.

      For example,

      1. Boost the child's confidence. Simple things to improve the child's self-esteem. Maybe let the child take the bus on his/her own; buy own food at the hawker centre or food court.

      2. Praise the child for something that she has done good

      3. Get her to help with simple chores - fold clothes or even help to do the dishes (actually, just wash her own plates and cutlery). It gives them a sense of pride and achievement that you trust them to do \"adult\" chores and they see it as helping mummy or daddy.

      4. Make learning \"bite size\". In other words, instead of asking the child to study 2 hours at a stretch, get her to work on 30-40mins, take 5 mins break and then work on the next 30-40mins.

      5. Get the child to exercise. It cd be going for walks, swimming, jogging, playing badminton.... no need to spend a long time. Maybe 1/2 or so. They idea is to loosen the muslces and bring oxygen to brain.

      6. Don't compare with other kids. Each child is different and have different learning styles. If your child is a visual learner, get her to do mind maps or use coloured highlighters to highlight key words and ideas.

Whatever it is, don't lose faith. Continue to provide emotional support. At the same time, u must also take care of your health too so that you can take care of your child's.

      :celebrate:
Thank you very much for your kind advice.... :thankyou:

Yes, SJI(International) stipulates minimum PSLE score of 220.

but my DS's friend score was 170+ and he is in Hwa Chong International sec 1 now. You should just call the schools to find out.

Thank you for your information...will check with HCI next year....

Wow! Just checked the website. the fee is $4500+GST per term for sec 1 to 4. JC1 & 2 is $5100+GST per term.

I drive pass their building everyday while sending my DS to HCI. from outside, the building looks very nice. Better than HCI I must say. May b bcos of the fee they charge?

For HC International - Secondary School

Officially on website, $19260 (include GST) per year or $4815 (include GST) per term or $1605 (include GST) per month.

From the same website, it seems that 2010 will still stay at $17334 (include GST).

Wondering if going to this type of International School still need to go private tuition or not?

How is the fee compared to Australian International School?

Do students of HC International takes also GCE ‘O’ Level?

It result very good, can still join back to mainstream good JC?

170+ really can get in? Based on results or on admission test or "connections"?

If I am not wrong, it is a 6 years IP program. No 'O' levels.

Not sure how my DS's friend gets in. My DS just met him at the school canteen weeks ago and that was how we knew he is in HC international. One thing for sure is he got 170+ ~ 180 for his PSLE.

My nephew went to HC Intl sch for 1 yr (sec 1 in 2009). Somehow his mum thinks it is not good for his character development (they are christians, he scored around 180). At end of sec 1, she wanted to transfer him out to CTSS. The principal refused to meet her. In the end, based on connection, managed to see the principal but because the principal is posted to another SS, can’t offer him in CTSS, he ended up in PHS (joins 5 yr normal acad) in YCK.

                      ..

it's the same as students in govt missionary schools loh.
not all teachers are Christians anyway.
                      .
I'm quite sure all the teachers in the Sanyu adventist school are all Adventists.

Also wonders are these International Students well behave...
                        :
Actually in private schools, some students can be rowdy too. I was from a private christian school in pri/sec. It depends on how your child would handle being in that type of study environment. Some of the teachers can b v good. I had v good trs. Me & several of my classmates went to rather good JCs after our O-levels, like NYJC, AJC, HCJC(best during that time), RJC, VJC.
