PSLE COP 2009
-
Sun_2010:
From experience (I have 2 boys who have gone through the PSLE), the MOE normally updates the individual schools' COPs in March or April every year, so I have been sort of keeping a look out for it and it was plankao who alerted in this thread that the COPs have been updated.Hi 25 hrmaid,
Thanks. Did not even know whenthis would be available. i tot had to wait for the booklet from MOE.
Ya , u guessed it - a first time PSLE Mom

Yes, you are right, the booklet/s will come from the MOE, but I think that is a bit too late for us to do our 'homework' properly. The booklets will only be given out in Oct every year, too late for 'homework' in my opinion. -
Hi 25hourmaid,
Thank you so much for the info. It sure is useful for me as my boy is taking PSLE this year. BIG HEADACHE !!

Does NYG having higher COP than RGS means they are better? I say no because NY has affiliation with NYPS while RGS does not. This means that the number of places available in NY for the S1 posting is significantly lower than that of non-affiliation school such as RGS and supply demand takes over from there. Note that the RGS and a few non-affiliation schools has higher \"upper COP\" than NY.Hmm, why are the COPs of 2009 so low?? I thought 2009 was quite a good year, with 290 as highest. So why did most schools drop by a bit? My year, 282 was highest only, and yet for Nan Hua the COP was 249, a huge difference from the 242 now. So ashamed of NHHS!!
And I knew one day NY would be better than RGS
However, why are co-ed IP schools gaiing more popularity? Like Dunman, NJC... so weird...
Perhap it is time to get rid of this affiliation thing and practice true meritocracy. -

for NYPS girls to get into NYGH under affiliation scheme, the minimum T-score must be 250 and above

To maintain the affiliation is to help continue the culture and values of the Nanyang family of schools.
NYGH was founded as a non-government school which became a government aided school, part of the funding is from donors, they have their board of governors while RGS / RI is a purely government school -
I have personal experience of a non-affiliated secondary school with similar COP as another affiliated secondary school
Looking at the COP of the affiliated secondary where their own primary students can get in at 188, one may be drawn to conclude that the non-affiliated school is definitely better since all the students got in with the higher COP
The truth is that THAT non-affiliated secondary is all crap as the students came from all over the country and with all kind of bullies and gangsters around - even with those respectable t-scores
the principal and teachers hardly can cope and after one year, i gave up
whereas the affiliated secondary school emphasised the continuity of the school value and culture and it lifted up the performance of those lower ranked t-score students to be better than the non-affiliated sec school i mentioned above
so among parents and alumni, there is still strong support base for the affiliated schools system - just look at the present debate on SJI -

No worries, we are all here to help if need be, just have to :?:, but on a serious note, that's what this thread is for, to help you relief some headaches by doing your 'homework' in advance before the MOE distributes the booklet in Oct.Hi 25hourmaid,

For both my boys, I prepared a list of at least 20 schools with various COPs and it really helped when the time came for us to choose a school. -

Trust us, no regrets joining KSP! :celebrate: Now you know why there's a thread in Chit Chat about how addicted we are to KSP?
