Hi BowieHi Chrismei and HappyAvon,
May I know which center u have enrolled ur kids in?
Did they assess ur kids when they enroll and iz true that kids go acc to their progress so some more advance kids are mixing with older kids in the same class?
When u mention PRP, are you referring to I CAN READ PRELIMINARY? A level after THINKING AND CREATIVE SKILLS?
What are the average age of the kids in the class?
Sorry for so many Q. I am wondering if every center have same practice.
Thanx Thanx
She is in harbor front under Ms Karen. PRP is 1 level after Little learner …I think age group for PRP sld b 3.5 yrs and above? Not sure…

Still okay lah...my girl joined PRP when she was about to turn 4. She was placed in PRP when she enrolled in ICR....In a way, we saved some $$$.... We even extended her PRP and delayed her reading programme for one term...2 reasons.. Time slot for reading programme not suitable...we do not feel a need to rush her since she was still in N2....My girl has the same teacher since PRP till now..Initially she was in ICR Pacific Plaza but they closed the centre and moved to Harbourfront....We can actually choose to transfer to ICR Katong Mall for its proximity; however, we decided to stick to the same teacher and so followed all the way to Harbourfront....kekeke

After reading this thread…it get me really worried.
My son is in K2 now, he can speak fluently in English but he cant read, not even a little. Both me and my wife were thinking not to press him too much at his age but guess we were wrong. We signed him up only for drawing and swimming classes but recently we sent him to Tianhsia Chinese class (2 sem already). Now i am seriously considering to sign him up for either Zoophonic or ICR. Any advise ?
Thank you -
hi Chengcab,
Perhaps you may want to start at home by having someone read to him on a consistent basis (bedtime story for instance). If he can’t read totally, start with those simple reader books; and then slowly move on. Flash cards are supposed to help also.
Going on those classes will help, but what will see most improvement I feel will be starting at home - if there is daily reading done, it will surely (my opinion) beat a once a week lesson.
Library is an excellent source to start with. I’m constantly amazed by the volumes of books they have covering all ages. -
Just to give my 2 cents worth. Can also introduce phonics, esp letter sounds. I find that it helps in belnding and sounding out new words. Phonics and repeated exposure to sight words will help int ehir own way. Starting with simple books will give your child the confidence and interest in reading. Do not be so worried as there is still time. Your DS may surprise you with his progress in just a few months, just like mine did. Keep trying. :ugogirl:
