      dimsum:
Didnt know about this policy. I thought the requirement then was to print dialect name first followed by hypy name in bracket.

Ya, same for my boy. Dialect surname followed by first name in hypy. And you will notice that sg chinese hypy first names are separated. Eg. Tan Wen Jie. But for PRC, they tend to stick together. Chen Wenjie.

Thought children born after a certain year - no such requirement already. I know in the mid-1980s there was a period when they encouraged that. Those \"babies\" then are already averaging 30 years of age.

Even by my eldest's time - who is past 20 yrs of age already, there was no such requirement already for HYPY names, likewise for my now JC2 child. So I would think that the A-level cohort that just received their results wouldn't be during the HYPY name era.

Sorry for hijacking this but i can’t create a new topic, so please do bear with me. If there is strong objection, pls feel free to let me know and i will remove this post.

        Dear all,
I would like to check with the seniors’ parents on the accelerated Math and Science program in NJC.
        1. How do students get enrolled in these 2 programs?
        2. When do they stream to these programs?
        3. Understand that those taking 3rd language has a clash of timetable? can this be resolved?
        4. Can students take both programs?
        Thank you very much.

Interested JH1 students need to sit for selection test to determine whether they r offered the MA acc.prog.

They then attend extra lessons. Not sure how many lessons each week nor the duration for each lesson nor which day.

Whether clashed with 3rd language, I hv no idea.

I am not aware of Sci acc. prog.

During my elder boy's time (he is in year 6) now, Sci. acc. prog is spilt into Physics and Chemistry. Again, there was a selection test for both subjects. If I recall correctly, these Sci acc. prog were offered in year 2. It was not encouraged to take 3 acc. prog then. Not sure about now.

Thanks Jennifer. Yes, you are right. Just found out today that they will be invited to sit for selection test based on their recent Math test results. Thanks!

If the student has made many careless mistakes in the test but shows potential or has bn doing very well prior to this test, it is possible for the class teacher to extend the invite.

Do take into considerations all present commitments before deciding to take up acc.prog.

I thought all students can sit for the selection test if they are interested, not exactly based on their recent Math test results. I saw my dc's class rep whatapping everyone in the class to remind them to sit for the selection test if they are interested.

According to the orientation briefing, the accelerated science program would start in JH2. It is possible for a student to take both accelerated math and science. The accelerated math program would take place on Thursdays after school hours for the JH1s this year, so if your child is not taking 3rd lang on Thursdays, should be ok.

Attended the JH2 drama production this morning.

Wow by the acting skills of the students.

BUT I do not like most of the themes, esp the one titled YOUR MUM! and IRL in which mums are portrayed as the bad guys. What about the dads?

Out of the 8 productions, too much focus on bullying.
