Noted and will do a day trip. How about Ryokan stay? Will Tokyo or Osaka be better?
Easier for me to advise on a good ryokan. If you have the dates, it would be even better. I can check from online Japanese booking website than booking.com, they offer a cheaper rate (see my previous posts). All payment (think cc is ok) made on the spot upon check-in. Free cancellation as long as 1-3 days before.
My suggestion is to go Kyoto for ryokan (30 mins away from Osaka only).
This one a bit far from Kyoto station (bout 10 mins via taxi (less than 1000 yen for taxi)), but one of the cheapest i can find. 1 night: 24444 yen for 5 pax/exclude 8% tax, all in 1 room (includes breakfast only)

Yes. All priced in Jap Yen and difference is exchange rate. So far in Singapore, I only know of Prime Travel's Follow Me Japan that allow payment in Jap Yen.bebebub:
Can we safely assume that the passes are sold at a fixed price in Japanese yen, regardless of which agent we go to? I do understand there will be differences if we pay in Sing $$ or by credit cards. TIA
Some internet sites seem to suggest they can DHL it to you and they charge a price for that. I don't think it is necessary to use such service since JTB at Ion is so convenient. I have checked the exchange rate at several travel agents when I bought my passes. On both occasion that I checked, JTB was quite reasonable and is the most convenient and allow payment in CC. Most other travel agent insist on cash payment in SGD. -
can I ask for the hotel rooms, would it be better (price wise) to book one big room for 3A 3C (one is a 18 mo) or two rooms. I regret telling my MIL we are going to travel to Japan, didn't ask her whether she is interested to join, she just went ahead to buy tickets from where she is staying now to join us (she is not staying in sg) I am very bad hor but holiday is to spend 24/7 with my kids and DH. Nothing I can do now except try to think positively
in addition, it is difficult to learn skiing? My DH is like huh..when I suggested to go Hakuba for skiing, but my boys would definitely be thrilled. -

Learning to ski isn't too difficult, though it does need practice. Probably the most important thing is to relax and have fun!
Kids tend to pick up skiing more quickly as they (usually) have no fear, tend to have a lower centre of gravity if they are young and generally like going fast :scared:.
Here are some things I've learnt while learning to ski (in Japan):
- Lessons, lessons, lessons
It's very important to learn the proper technique, how to stop, get on and off the chair lift, skiers' code of responsibility etc.
Private lessons can be pricey but I think they are worth it for the undivided attention and faster progression.
You can try requesting an instructor who is good with beginners/whichever level you are at. And if you \"click\" with that instructor, try to book him/her for the next lesson for continuity.
Group lessons are ok provided the class size isn't too big.
And try to take more than one lesson - just one isn't enough in my opinion.
- Wear the appropriate clothing
To avoid being too cold or too warm or wet!
No jeans! Wear a waterproof jacket and pants, and warm socks.
Gloves, goggles and a helmet are also important.
- Pick up the equipment the day before you start skiing (if renting)
So that you don't find yourself in a last-minute rush to get the equipment on the day you want to ski (it takes time to put the ski clothes and ski boots on, especially if you need to help the kids).
And allow yourself a decent amount of time to be fitted in ski boots, skis etc when you rent them.
- You don't need to ski fast (unless you want to)
Being in control is more important.

Assuming that you are taking Narita Express or Keisei Skyliner, by the time you clear customs and get to Tokyo, it would be about 3pm-4pm.
If you go to Odaiba, you can be prepared to spend your whole night there.
You might want to consider Ameyoko @ Ueno, Tokyo station, or Ikebukuro if you don't wish to go Odaiba.
Day 2 (Sun) – Shibuya/ Harajuku (more to add)?
How bout Shinjuku? There is a famous melon bun shop there and can grab some nice fruit chocolates souvenirs.
Also, there is Takashimaya and Tokyu Hands for shopping.

Day 5 (Wed) – Tsukiji Fish market (more to add)?

Hmm, i personally think maybe 2 rooms might be better. If everybody squeeze in 1 room, might be very difficult for the hotel to accomodate your request. Else, you might wish to go for Airbnb...can I ask for the hotel rooms, would it be better (price wise) to book one big room for 3A 3C (one is a 18 mo) or two rooms. Hi,
Anybody went Chiba before. I plan to bring my family there in early Dec for about 1 week tour cos my friend’s family is there inviting us to visit their farm. Plan to stay in their house for about 2 days, thereafter spend some days on on places.
For a family of 4 and via Tokyo, not sure how much to budget for. My budget is limited therefore only plan for some simple tour.
If possible, I wish to rent a car there for our free and easy travel. No nice to ask my Jap friend to company us the whole week.
Any advise pls feel free to post.
