OK, specifically, there are only two kinds of Group 2 'Modern Languages' courses you can take for the IB. These are 'Language B' and 'ab initio'. The former is perhaps somewhat similar in level to what we used to call 'AO' when we were in JC. This can be taken at higher level or standard level (main difference is 240 hours with more stuff or 150 hours with less stuff). He initially took HCL with the understanding that he need not do Chinese anymore in Year 5 and 6 if he got a pass. Whereas, if he were to take normal Chinese, he has to take Chinese in Year 5 and 6 no matter what. This is true for those doing the 'O' level and JC route if I understand correctly. I guess it's not true in the IB route? In which case I would support him to drop HCL for CL2 since he has better chance of getting a pass grade for the latter and he need not take CL2 in Year 5 & 6 if he chooses not to. Erm, am I correct in the above??
In the Singapore system, because of the bilingual policy, normally a student who does HCL and passes the O-levels wouldn't have any more MT requirement after that, while someone who does CL(2) will still have to pass it at H1 level in JC. For the IB it's a bit different. The IB has a second language (Group 2) requirement, so even if you pass HCL you must still do a second language—but it can be any language you want; many of my past students took an ab initio language such as German or Spanish, because those are practically useful or just fun to do.
If you only pass CL(2) at O-level, you still do Chinese B at Y5 and Y6. -

Do you know the percentage of IB students with HL Chem in ACSI? School has issued circular to say they will strictly not entertain any appeals for Y4 who wants to do HL Chem but does not get at least a 6.
In the past, even grade 5 get to do HL Chem and they fared well eventually with a 6 or 7 for IB. It appears that school is reducing the places for HL Chem? I wonder why. -
My DS spent too much time online and did not manage to get a 6 for Chem or Maths for mid-yr exam this year (IP Y4). It’s a wake-up call for him and he is looking for extra help. Thinking of Raffles Trust Learning Centre run by Dr Chan. Anyone with comments on this centre? Will be greatly appreciated!

As usual my son did not bring back the appointment booking form.
According to him, priority will be given to those who failed in the SA.
I assume priority will be given to the O level students as well.
A bit worried that my son did not get any 6 in his sciences and maths and not sure whether he can improve in the subsequent exam to do HL next year or not. -

Obviously the boy still sleeping, but the mommy got jolted up & threaten to approach every single teacher if he doesn't get me some slots. So he secured 4 slots.

Form past experience it's almost impossible to get any time with the teacher if don't have any slot at all.
