Hi parents,
I am in a strange situation . I currently am overseas on work and renting out my unit in pasir ris till Dec 26th of 2015 . I will have a child undergoing P1 registration exercise in this JUly who currently stays with my grand parents . We plan to move to pasir ris in January 2016 . Can I use my pasir ris address for P1 registration exercise ? For sure we will stay in the pasir ris place going forward for more than 30 months . Anything special I need to do ?
Thanks a lot and all the best to all parents and children in this years P1 registration exercise -

It's not a problem at all to use your pasir ris address since you own it, as long as your child stay there from P1 till end P2.Hi parents,

The 30months is counted from the point of registration or P1 Jan onwards? If the former, it will become an offense to use an address you are not staying there (rented out till dec 2015). Better check with MOE any SD form you need to sign. -

Hquek,
My take is that only the family living and intending to live in that unit for the nxt 2.5 years and more should be able to use. The rental family can use whatever they like, but if they are found out not to be staying in that flat...good luck to them. Jail term/bad press/getting transferred out is not something that many people can stomach.nlimm:
A qn , eg a scenerio like this
what if a family they rent a house from another family ( unit owner) who have kid supposed to go in the same school in2017 or 2018?
The contract supposed to covered till may2016, now if the rental family use the address for their kid . Concurrently the owner definitely would not wan to renew contract upon expiry, in this case coz the rental family still use this address to register their kid ?
But rental family staying there till may2016.
And that's the address in their ic.
This means as long as rental contract not till 30 mths later they can't use rental address for registration this July?
Confusing.
We almost bot a unit that the current rental family is doing PV at my boy's future sch.The contract ended may 2015 but recontracted to May2016.
As they r doing PV while we are under alumni phase n we r not in a hurry to move in even upon purchase. So prior & upon announcement of this new rules, we are still pondering abt this unit.
It be touchy if they use the address for registration right?
Means future units that we getting , we have to make sure previous owner/tenant did not use out address for their kids' sch registration? -

The onus is not on the buyer, but the seller (previous owner), to ensure that they comply with those rules. They will be the ones who have to answer why they did not stay at those premises for 30 months.

But seller is not doing pv. Is the tenant. Buyer can insist buying without tenancy

Of course. It is the tenant that would be violating the 30-month rule. -

When the new 30mth rule was first introduced, I believe many would have already moved into the rental unit and many would have NOT signed a 30mth contract then. So we can't say that these people cannot use their current rental address that is reflected on their IC for registration.
Confusing.

If you bought this unit with tenancy, then you cannot use this address for P1 registration, the tenant get to use it for registration. It is an offense to use an address (a condo you own but you don't stay in) for registration.
So what will happen after May 2016?
I assume if you do not want to renew their contract, then this family will appeal to school based on a case-by-case basis, hoping that the school will allow the child to stay on as they wanted to renew and stay on in the same rental unit but the landlord wants them out. I believe many will face such situation before the 30th month. The final decision will lies with the school.
Please correct me if I am wrong.
