Thanks mummy of 2. Actually I am trying to find which story books have better written English as I think ,maybe, :roll: :? some of them the English is not too proper as such the young reader will pick up the wrong thing...

BTW if you can wait and are willing to try. I have seen new copies on sale at MPH expo sale and the likes. got 1 omnibus (set of 3 books in 1) of faraway tree at I think $5.40 (after all the discounts) at the last sale.

This sounds like a great consolation for me..

Now, when is this MPH expo usually, hquek? :rubhands:

Want to make a book recommendation here. I bought this book two years ago, but DS was afraid of the back cover and refused to read it.

He picked it up last night though, and couldn't put it down. It's still early, but it looks like this is a hit! I haven't read it, but the illustrations are very beautiful. It's about automatas which are like wind up robots - these were popular a few hundred years ago in Europe.

On a personal note, this is a triumph for us because DS has never liked mysteries or fantasy. So after this, who knows? Agatha Christie? Hehe.

Does anyone knows if the Rainbow magic series of books are good readers for 5 yo? :? My daughter likes it, and I m not sure if I should let her continue reading the books.

DS received the Hugo Cabret book last Christmas. He enjoyed it. He says the book is like a movie. I haven’t read it myself though.

I have read a few pages of the books & my gal likes it alot. Compared to other other books, I find it is quite easy for a 5yo to absorb.

I recommend this series of books by Cynthia Rylant for girls :

Bookshops don't sell them but you can find them easily in the library. Look in the JS section. There is a whole series of them. Also try the Lighthouse series. Any book by Cynthia Rylant is good for kids.

Also look for the Catwings series by Ursula K. Le Guin, Nate the Great by Marjorie Weinman Sharmat, the Ottoline Series by Chris Riddell, Mercy Watson series by Kate Dicamillo. All available at the library or http://www.amazon.com.

These are \"must-read\" books by all children at 5 years old :
The Boxcar Children by Gertrude Chandler Warner
Three tales of My Father's Dragon by Ruth Stiles Gannet
Paperbag princess by Robert Munsch

Also, kids before the age of 6 should still be reading lots of picture books. Try Madeline by Ludwig Bemelmans and Curious George, as well as all the books by Tomie dePaola, Barbara Cooney, Chris Riddell, etc.

Wow thanks for the hole list of books! I will go to the library and have a look! Usually I will try to borrow from library unless I m unable to get them or my gals really love reading those books.
